Ive been using quickbooks premier for 8 years but it is now going subscription only starting at £45 per month, I have previously been spending £300 every 3 years so seems like a huge hike in price.
I have looked at many alternatives but as I work in construction I need progress invoicing and job costing but non seem to offer this.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Hi there!

Why spend on Quickbooks when you can have your own accounting/inventory/billing/invoicing software made ? Initially there might be a small investment in the software, but later on, it will for you to keep. It will be very nice for the longer run.

Kindly reply back if you are interested in knowing the possibilities.

Jump into the Xero world, the spend and ROI is so easy when integrating with business processes, I know a Xero integrator that can make the transition very easy if you would be interested, for ourselves we use a cloud accountancy that handle all of our bookkeeping and accounting aspects and provide Xero and other tooling for a low monthly cost - again message me if that would be of interest.

I'm not an expert on QuickBooks premier - but I think it is desktop only. A google finds that Quickbooks Pro ( one down from Premier ) was $299 in 2004 and Quickbooks Premier Plus 2017 is $299

So not sure what your pre-post cloud price hike data is from?

I use a company called Quickfile if that helps... I think its cheaper.. Doesn't look as fancy, but does accounting well

The OP has a requirment ( job costing ) that just isn't provided by the standard cloud accounting packages like Xero / Kashflow / Quickfile / Sage One

I'm no expert in Job Costing - but if anyone has experience of Job Costing software - the OP would benefits from those comments

    Hi Alan
I am talking about the cost of the new subscription models, as I said in the first post quickbooks premier cost me £300 the last time i updated and I generally update every 3 years so £100 per year, The new subscription only version of quickbooks desktop (the perpetual is no longer available) is £45 per month so £1620 over 3 years or £540 per year for the same product
