Quickbooks Desktop Discontinued in the UK

Morning,

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned before back when Intuit announced they were pulling the desktop version of Quickbooks.

Is anyone else in the same boat in regards to using the desktop version rather than Quickbooks Online / other cloud based software.

I think our business will have to join with the times and go cloud based as per what various companies are now offering.

We send quotes / sales orders / invoices / purchase orders.
We need stock management, not warehouse management.
Multicurrency.
Multiple users - currently only 5 - with the option to add more.
Customer records.
Supplier records.
Pay roll.
VAT / Banking.
Ordinary business reports.

Any thoughts / advice on migrating from other business users or accountants/bookkeepers please.

Sage 50c could be heading in the same direction.

I was speaking with them last week and they have been advertising their cloud product and what happens if we become a partner of theirs.

I think that most accounting/bookkeeping work will begin to move exclusively to the cloud, especially with the increase in regulation and the uptake of MTD in the uk (MTD will be required for Self-Assessments from April 2023).

The one thing you should be able to ask, if you want to stick with quickbooks is whether they can migrate your date for free.

Kind Regards

Everybody stop panicking! Continue to use your existing software and just file VAT and any other MTD rubbish via one of the many services that do this for a modest fee. Try https://123sheets.com/ or https://www.opendigitaltax.net/ - others are available.

There is no need to slip down that insidious path of SaaS for this or almost anything else come to that.

I agree, the fact that you can't migrate multi-currency automatically to the cloud is an issue.
That's the problem with these Mickey Mouse cheaper SaaS enticements - they want real money for the proper versions of the subscriptions!

Hi guys,

I'm still not sure about the advertising rules on the forum so I'll just say that there are systems out there to combine, sales/CRM/Inventory. I work for one right now and happy to advise should you have any questions. Feel free to DM me.

Dusting off the cobwebs on this thread.

Like many, I use QB Desktop and have done since 2004.

My needs are: Quotes, sales orders, acknowledgements, stock, invoicing, multi-currency, single user.

My bookkeeper visits every six weeks or so to keep things in order and fix my mistakes, prep and submit VAT, and prep the annual accounts for the accountants. She runs a payroll tool and includes my pay on that.

I've looked at many but none of the 'affordable' solutions does everything that I need. For example, adding multi-currency throws things into a crazy price range, as does managing stock effectively.

I don't make my living doing accounts, I'm an engineer and sales guy so I'm happy with software but I don't want to be running journals etc. for everything.

Online would be 'okay' but most seem to shave-off features vs their desktop versions, and, if online, it needs to run reasonably quickly.

Given the above, what are people using/planning to use once the support for QB desktop ends?
