Question for Utilty Warehouse Distributors regarding services?

I'm assuming there are plenty of UW distributors here, so hopefully someone high enough up the chain can give me an answer to a couple of questions...

I've looked at the ID opportunity, and with a background in mobile phone and home energy sales I spotted the potential. Plus the literature stated it's available in Northern Ireland. However, being a resident in Northern Ireland I knew there must be some exclusions/limitations that apply to NI (there always are). When doing my research I discovered that Npower are the service provider for both gas & electricity for UW. This immediately sparked alarm bells as they do not operate in NI. Our electricity is supplied by NIE and Airtricity. Gas is fairly new to NI, most use oil, with Phoenix Gas and Firmus providing the gas supply. This lead me to the obvious conclusion that UW do not provide gas & electricity to it's NI customers. This is a big disappointment.

So my questions are, does anyone know when they intend to provide this element of their service? Now never to be one to stumble at the first hurdle (despite duel fuel being a biggie!), my second question is who is the service provider behind the Sim cards?

We use UW and are very happy with their services. I can't answer your question about NI but if you don't get any responses from UW via this forum please let me know and I'll put you in touch with my distributor.

BTW why haven't you addressed your questions to the person who is showing you the UW opportunity?

Thanks for that british steve.

KeithGreen to answer your question, I'm one of those few people that came across UW independently rather listening to a sales pitch. Like any venture, I started doing my research and working out a sales strategy. At the moment, it looks like UW is not a viable option for NI consumers.

Out of interest are you are you using UW services in Northern Ireland?

Hi P_V

No, I am in Basingstoke. I guess if UW have told you their services are not available in NI then that's that.

I put your question to my distributor (who is also a friend) and he replied thus:

interesting questions, not sure why they were not addressed to the person who is showing him/her the business opportunity, the answers are available via the normal company channels.

If you wish to forward my contact details the questioner may contact me directly.

Find out who they use to provide broadband services. Round here, UW broadband was so slow, pigeon carriers seemed to be quicker.

Barrie

They use Talk Talk for broadband hence the crap service. Donkeys with their legs tied together would be quicker! I think Talk Talk are the most complained about broadband company in the UK

I used to live in Rhyl - many years ago!

As I thought too big a question for your average ID.Oh well!
I think I will contact UW directly rather than going round the hills. Should have done that to start with.
Thanks anyway. :)

Not too big a question, as an average ID myself, not one I really bother myself with until I get a request from a potential customer, Ive enough work to get on with in my own area.

Why wasnt that your first option?

Hi will answer your question as far as I am aware. It is possible to get all our service in Northern Ireland providing you are in a mains gas area. I have one ID in Northern Ireland and if you would like to know more then I can put you in touch with him.

If you would like to pm me your contact details I will ring HQ tomorrow to find out all the ins and outs.

In parts of mainland UK there are areas where obviously we cant supply gas, cos there aint any to supply :p.

Hope that is helpful.

Anyway give me a pm and we can talk about it.

Best wishes

Avril:)

Unless they have jumped ship UW mobile was running on the T-Useless network

Oh I am having a great time tonight answering all of these. Steve we are on the orange/ T mobile network. Which I think for most areas is good. I do like most provider find dead areas. But they are very far and few. Usually where there are no masts from any provider.

If you are on O2 then where I can get a single in Wales you cant and vice versus. It is still the old problem like with broadband . If the infrastructure aint there then the service aint that good. It is that simple.

As a point of information. I always take my UW mobile with me to appointments and also check the broadband before seeing a customer. If the service is good then an ID should say it isnt feasible. That goes for ALL providers.

Best wishes

Where about are you. In Rhyl or outskirts. I have a few customers around there that get average to good reception. It is because there are still a lot of old exchanges and that is the same for all.

Also point of info for BS we are not using Talk Talk .

Best wishes

Hi Avril, your missing my point UW state that Gas & electricity isnt availbale in NI. I was just trying to find out why and when it might be available. I have emailed UW directly so hopefully will get an answer.

Anyone needing to check cellular frequency info should go to the providers site you can usually find (if you look hard enough) a map of the how their radio signal is carried throughout the whole of the uk.

As for the broadband sevices, Talk Talk are Tiscalli.

At the time I was in West Rhyl (although I am not now). We moved from Zen, where were getting an average speed of 5MB/s to UW where the average speed was about 450KB/s. When I complained I was told different things by a sales person and an engineer, The sales person, whom I did not believe, said things would get better in a few months, the engineer said it would be much longer than this. I changed to BT, and my speed went up again to to 5MB/s.
Things may be better now (this was about 3 years ago), but at the time I felt they were only interested in getting my business. The one good thing I can say about them is that I was not tied to a long contract - one month's notice was all that was needed.

No, UW is on T-Useless with a network share with Orange. Big Difference! Uw broadband is Talk Talk rebranded so the service will be pretty crap!

As for UW in general, it is just a glorified pyramid selling scheme.
