Public Liability Insurance needed for small hire business

Hi - I'm struggling to find a company which will provide me with Public Liability Insurance for a small hire business.

I'm going to be renting/hiring out items to peoples homes for short periods of time (up to 2 months) e.g. a spare bed (not my actual business but a similar scenario). I deliver it, they hire the item and then I collect it. As I visit their home I need PLI.

Does anybody know of a suitable insurance company who might do this sort of policy?

Why not ask your competitor from whom you plan to copy their terms and conditions who they use for insurance.

A great idea in theory, however my competitor has aspirations to expand his geographical coverage and is unlikely to divulge who he uses to run his business.

You should be able to get this from a broker for not much cost to be honest. We can take a look at this for you if you are struggling

My insurance Hiscox covers items whilst out on hire. We called them and asked how we can extend the insurance and try said it was part of it anyway, we just need to have a scan of their credit card to authorise it.

Hiscox are a top insurer in my eyes - they usually charge a premium for it mind but its worth every penny!

I was talking about them on another thread last night. They are amazing. We had a load of camera equipment under a bus in Greece in the luggage compartment, the terms said they only cover the item if it is in your possession, and even having it in a airplane hold is not in your possession. They told us they should have knocked it back, but they won't and paid out... it was a substantial claim as well.
