Hi, I'm starting a handmade cosmetics business as a sole trader and i was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent public liability insurance company and where can i get stability test done for my products and packaging?
I will only be using natural and organic ingredients and will be working from home with an online store.
I plan to sell at summer festivals and market stalls too.

is there anything else I'll need?

Thanks in advance

Hi @Nibz :) Bit of a late reply but hopefully it's still a relevant question! Depending on how you're sourcing and mixing the ingredients and packing the products it should be relevantly easy to get public liability insurance (which is often grouped with product liability to cover your products).

Have you managed to find anywhere yet?

I bank with Natwest and they provide this, check with your business bank provider usually they supply business insurances.

You might need more than 1 insurance though:

1. Public Liability Insurance
2. Professional Indemnity Insurance
3. Employer Insurance

Public is the most important, Professional Indemnity is linked to your products or services causing financial damage to a third party, Employer applies if you have employees.

As for costs Public Liability costs around £80 / year and adding the others doesn't bring the cost up much so it is negligible.
