Hi

I'm on the verge of starting my own cleaning business but I'm finding it very hard to find insurance??? I have been on the comparison websites but as soon as I mention I'm a discharged bankrupt I get a message telling me the systems not that clever and asking me to ring them? I've been discharged for two years on 22nd June 2014 and it was personal not business.

Please help I've set it all up including a website and even sent off price lists, I need it ASAP in case I get a job through.

Thank you for reading

Thanks for your reply, I didn't think local would be cost effective and I was trying to avoid ringing an 0844 number on a mobile thinking it could be a long conversation (trying to keep costs right down) but I guess ill have to bite the bullet !

I have to agree with what Bob said, but then most would say I am biased.
Most comparison sites and web driven products will only quote for standard risks. If you fall outside of the criteria then you will need to speak to someone.

Is it not better to spend a couple of pounds on the phone getting the right advice and cover instead of the cheapest premium that fails to cover you should a claim occur.

I too share the OP's dislike of o844 numbers. At the very least, it is disrespectful to potential clients to charge and share a fee to offer your services! At worst, it is potentially VERY expensive. Being on hold listening to rubbish music, while the company you are phoning is clocking up revenue is frustrating.
Excerpt from OFCOM numbers guide:
0843 and 0844
How much do calls cost? Calls are charged between 1p and 13p per
minute for landline customers. Calls from mobile phones are typically
charged between 20p and 41p per minute, depending on the provider and the number
called.

So calling from a mobile is definitely not a sensible move. The problem is that you could easily have a 30 minute phone call, and still not get the full or correct answers to a query. Find a broker with a landline, I am sure there must still be at least one!
EDIT:

We use the following. There IS a geographical number (0800 calls are chargeable from mobiles), but if you email them or use a LL to phone they WILL give you it.

There's lots of scope for bankruptcy policy cover but it depends on when it was discharged (you said it was 2 years.) That'll probably be the reason they need to chat to you as the quote forms get a little too complicated if they have to include those sorts of questions.

Also, there's a lot of personal circumstances around bankruptcy which a quote form just can't pick up. Happy to chat about anything if you wish.
