Property Management newbie

Hello I'm new here (and fairly new to running my own business)

I’ve been running a small property management company (block management and private estates) for just over a year now. My career background isn’t in property, but after a couple of redundancies I decided to give it a crack based upon my own experience as a volunteer resident Director (so the frustrations of dealing with unscrupulous managing agents as a leaseholder had some benefit after all!).

I’m hoping to do a bit of networking (London and Dorset) and considering paid membership as I think it would be beneficial for me. I’d also be interested to hear about the experiences of other members as it’ll help to keep me on my toes.

OK, now you know who I am in case I decide to post at a later time.

Hi Southbourne - I don't know what tools you use to manage your blocks but you might be interested in blockmanagementonline.com

It is a really cheap web service that helps reduce the hassle of managing blocks of flats and provides websites for the block or residents management company.

Hello Avril and thanks for your support.

However, I'm not that sort of managing agent. My business is actually looking after entire blocks of flats and small private estates on behalf of the resident leaseholders who each own a share of freehold (arranging their buildings insurance, liaising with accountant, gardeners etc.)

However, I will keep your details to hand in case I can refer someone on.

Thanks anyway!

Southbourne.

If you are thinking about starting your own property management company or looking to grow your existing business, you need to know that the right structure can really make a difference in positioning yourself for success.

Like any startup, you need to identify a need that clients will have; this is either a gap in the market (unlikely with property management) or an innovative way of offering the service or perhaps a specialized niche for a specific group of people.
