On behalf of a friend:
I have been letting a 2 bed flat for 12 months. When I moved in the condition was reasonably poor - I requested a carpet clean but was declined, so I paid for one out of my own money and with the agreement of the landlord I had areas repainted too.
When I came to move out the Letting Agent inspected the flat. There was a few requests from them (extra dusting, clean washing machine draw and an oven clean), which I on the day the new tenants moved in. The following week the Letting Agent agreed to return my deposit, in writing, within a few days.
Since then, the Landlord has got involved and apparently inspected the flat also on the same day as the new tenants moved in. He has come back with over £550 worth of work! Replacement to a tap due to mildrew, replacement of a light fitting (already there and untouched), professional oven clean, and over 7.5 litres of paint for 2 small walls (to name a few). He wants to charge over £300 for his mileage, travelling time and labour. It seems this guy wants to refresh the flat at my expense.
Having had the letting agency already sign off the flat and agreed to return my deposit - is this even my responsibility now?
