Promoting my affiliate program

Hey all, first post!

So, I am just starting an online business that is targeting small businesses in theUK and the States (not sure about the rules on promoting your own business here so I won't mention it just yet!) and am thinking that trying to cultivate a few affiliate partnerships may be a way to go.

In an ideal world, if I could get involved with someone like Yell (or other business directories) that already have a large customer base of small businesses and they would refer me for a fee/share of income - then that would be absolutely perfect! However I know that this is unlikely to happen.

I guess my question is, how would you go about promoting your affiliate scheme? Would you join an affiliate network (anyone got good experiences with these guys?!) or would you identify some targets and go direct to source? Any tips?

Thanks,
Matt!

You could try investing in some off the shelf software such as dynolead or click bank which will help the affiliates validate the offer.
Depends what the offer is but I'd be very surprised if yell would be interested in affiliate deal unless you were Ftse 100 and also financially contributing.
Dm and let me know what the business is or post on here and I'll give you a clearer answer.

Hey thanks for replying :)

My business is ScheduleSMS - I am trying to help bring SMS Marketing to small business owners. I know that this has been done before, but I think I can do a good job of it and hopefully make a little spending money on the side :)

Anyway... I agree that Yell would not be interested, and I don't have the money to offer any cash up front (at this stage anyway). I guess what I am wondering, is what is the best way to try and catch a few small fishes, rather than go after the whale.
