Product liability insurance to sell in independent shops

Hi, I'm wanting to start selling to independent stores, but I want to be professional and have my affairs in order before I do. They're all very little shops and/or online stores. I'm told some may require me to have product liability insurance(I sell resin ornaments, nothing medical, electrical, no toys etc) , which isn't an issue, but I want to make sure that's correct and also if there's anything else I need regarding insurance before approaching these outlets. As an online seller I don't think I've ever asked any business supplying me if they have product liability insurance.
Or indeed any insurance.

Haven't even asked the reps that come visit if they have car insurance.

Its simply not relevant to my business.

As Mr D says it's unlikely that the stores will want to check that you have liability insurance, however it is advisable to have it in case something goes wrong with anything you have sold to them (for instance someone is hurt by one of your products). Also if you have premises or staff then you'll need to have insurance. anyway.

You certainly need product liability insurance. What if a child swallows one of your ornaments?

Thanks so much Mr D and Alison, I'd been misinformed by someone. What you've both said makes perfect sense (and before I heard from anyone else it's what I'd have believed too). Thank you both again, Mark.

Many insurance companies now require you to have an agreement with the manufacturer for recourse should anything untoward happen to the public as a result from using your product.

Another reason for insurance companies to raise your premiums.
