Hi People,

Target buyer is 13 - 35 male into computer gaming and I'm just trying to decide which product name would be more attractive to them for a gaming laptop..

Something like

"GT1000 Gaming Laptop" or "Warrior GT 1000 Gaming Laptop"

Thanks
Phil

We are not your target market. Computer gamers in their 20's and 30's are a 'special' bunch i'd imagine and I would think they are not well represented here.

You would be better asking the question on a gamers forum.

13-35 is too broad I reckon. Our kids are that age and they wouldn't be seen dead with me (who is just over 40) at a games shop/gig

I would go for generic, short brandable domain (good luck) and start from there...

GT-1000 is trade marked, albeit in Clothing, footwear, headgear (by Asics).

Warrior too, but in Perfumes; toilet waters; eau de colognes; essential oils; antiperspirants; deodorants and shower gels; all included in Class 3

source: www.ipo.gov.uk

I would try and come up with something thats not already used.

You could call a laptop a GT1000 if you wanted as long as there isn't another laptop named that. There's a Ducati GT1000.

Naming a laptop based on a general spread won't work. What you need to do is decide which segment it's going to be in, and name it accordingly.

For instance, you may have male, 25-34, income £25,000, into flight simulation...therefore, call it something to do with that.

But, you will also have people into RPG in that bracket, different needs and wants.

So for flight sim might be called Supersonic M2, and for RPG 'Troll Lol Lol.' (if you want to know the second reference type in youtube, "BF3 trolling." Some funny stuff there. :)

Many in these categories build their own systems and overclock it to hell. So, will many want a gaming laptop? Research is key.

Good luck.

This is where I would try and get a little bit smart and leverage the work already done by bigger, much more wealthy companies. What I mean by this is, what do the market leaders (ultimately your competitors) do, I'm thinking the big boys in this sector like Alienware, or even Dell and HP?

Why not let their superior marketing budget answer some of your questions for you? There is no harm in taking note of what makes your competitors successful and using that to put you on the right track.

The gamer guys are the kind who love their games and miss its presence in reality. I think they would like names like Warrior and such but way cooler. New sounding, innovative and something that sounds like it is a part of the gaming world is something they would love.

Couldn't agree more with this. GT1000 just sounds like every other laptop on the market! You need to stand out...

Have you REALLY looked at your customer profile? Get a big (A1+) sheet of paper and a pen, and mindmap all the things that you think are important for your customer profile - interests, emotive words. Research what they are doing, what they are listening to, playing, what youtube videos they watch, how they spend their time. If you're going to make it your Key Product, the name needs to be right.

Having said that, I quite like warrior... :p But then I'm not your target market...

Hope that helps.
