Problems with EDF Energy

We were under 'license' not lease for a commercial property that came available next to our long term unit. Long story short the license stated one calender month notice to exit the license.

We issued start of sep, LL accepted and we handed back keys end of sep, all good.

We had a 3 year contract for energy with EDF, we are able to exit the contract as we have moved without penalty, but we are in a computer says no situation as they won't close the account without a surrender of lease, which we don't have obviously, only a letter from the LL stating we are no longer tenants in that warehouse.

I have explained at length this to EDF but it's like speaking to simpletons. Any advice?

All emails and contact are with an overseas customer service centre which further complicated matters.

Suppliers can be a bit stupid about change of tenancies.

Some businesses use them as a way to avoid paying and so suppliers tar everyone with the same brush.

Has the landlord contacted them to take over the supply? This can help speed things along.

Were you paying your own business rates? Again confirmation that this has ended helps.

Happy to discuss.

Hopefully you took photographic evidence of all meter readings, send copies to both landlord and power companies by dear old slow mail. If landlord was on the ball he would have taken pics of meters when you handed keys over in which case you can save yourself one stamp.

Yup, already shared biz rates bill with them and a letter from the LL on headed paper stating we have returned keys etc

We have also done this too.

The LL is local council where we already have a good relationship with, so maybe Ill ask them to take over supply as you suggest.
