Problem with Mozilla Thunderbird

Does anyone else have the same problem as me?

I have been using Thunderbird for a few months now and generally it is great and simple to use. However, there have been two occasions recently where it has just deleted my account!

I switched my laptop on, clicked to get my emails and it has asked me if I want to create a new account. All of my emails have gone, nothing there at all.

Am I doing something wrong? Help very greatfully appreciated.

I am not sure how it works but it should save your account into to somthing like an XML file. If that file gets damaged your account will be lost. Its probably a bug. Have you downloaded the latest version to see if that solves it?

Funnily enough I have just done that in the hope that it fixes the problem.
Otherwise if it happens again it looks like I am back to good old microsoft!

I had an email regarding Mozilla from a client of ours, please see content below:



We just got this message forwarded to us from a client.
It's not being caught by any virus checkers yet, so it's pretty new.
It's clever in the fact that it's playing on the fact that an inquisitve user will understand the differences between Mozilla and Internet Explorer and will be interested in seeing what this fictional character has to show.


I'm sure some of you will have a client or two asking about this.


The email comes with an 8k zip file, called Screen Capture.zip. if you open this, you'll get a file called so.scr, which is a PC only Virus.


Please don't run this file, or let any PC users you know run it either!
Some of you may want to pass this onto your IT departments too.

Look for a folder in

C:\Document and Settings\{your user profile name}\Application Data\

There's a folder for Mozilla Thunderbird - keep drilling down - a folder called profiles and one for Mail

(sorry doing this from memory)

Then you should see some files and folders - inbox, sent items, drafts, etc.

Here lie all your emails...
It might be that you have a couple of old 'profiles' from each time your account has been 'deleted' - in which case with a little jiggery pokery (renaming files and folders in accordance with what your Thunderbird settings says where it stores files) you can claim back your lost emails.

I have done this to recover from disk failures - although there may be tools available to help with this (Thunderbird has good support forums and a lot of information: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=39)
