Printing solution needed

I have created a baby journal for new mothers in order for them to track their baby’s feeds, naps, nappy changes etc in order to help them establish a routine for both them and their baby but I have no idea how to print it off in a cost effective way.

I’m getting quoted £23 in order to get this printed off for one copy!

I am more than happy to invest in a printer and do it myself but where would I go to get information on the best printer.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You're probably better off just paying the printer to do it. If it's just a cheap booklet you need making up, perhaps consider using your local library or somewhere to print it off? Mine charges 10p per sheet.

Cost of consumer ink is astronomical, and you really don't get much for your money nowadays. This is why inkjet printers are so cheap, the ink is often 3x the initial cost and run out far quicker than they probably should. Plus you need to set up the files, bind, trim and finish the booklet yourself.

Compared to what I've had to pay for small booklet print runs in the past, £23 for one booklet actually isn't too bad, and you could probably get more made up for a similar price.

Print companies have a baseline cost for setting up a print-run. It's not really just a case of pressing 'print' and a booklet pops out. There's imposition, folding, binding, and trimming to account fo, plus staff wages. The more copies of something you print, the cheaper the individual booklets become.

What size is the booklet? how many pages? and what sort of quantity are you looking at?

How many were you wanted printed? Is it A4/ A5? How many pages is it?

Having it professionally printed and finished, doesn't have to cost the earth. To be honest depending on the answers to the above questions, it might cost about the same for a decent printer/ink/paper etc. Could you use a printer for other stuff? If you don't really need one, I'd look into getting it printed professionally.
