Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has advise for me on this. I am starting out a really small business from home (at first) and we want to promote our services with leaflets in the local community. We are just thinking if we should invest in a desktop printer (£100-200?) and print out the few hundred or couple thousand flyers ourselves or use a printing service? Its just hard to try and predict how much money we would spend on paper and ink and obcviously the printer itself. We will probably be printing more flyers in the becoming months as well..

Any advise very welcome! Thanks

Ok thanks Bill. I actually thought the quality would be the same (if used quality paper and a good printer) but that the cost would be the advantage. Are professional printers really that much better? It would mostly be flyers and leaflets.

Ok thanks, ill see what kind of option I need. It just probably depends quite a lot on the quantities wheter or not it is worth it. Ive been looking at prices online and ink is actually really expensive. Anyhoo, Ill give you guys a shout if I need a quote. Ive been using print24 in the past so I'm going to check their prices too, and also the print shop on my high street, see what kind of price they can do as well. Although it seems all online companies can beat the price, but maybe not the delivery speed? Like last time, when I needed business cards printed, the guys did it in one hour, cant really beat that :D

Hi Morrjo,

50 qty A5 Leaflets single sided 4 colour process on cheap photopaper = Print yourself (wont be as good but a cheap solution)
100 - 1000 qty "" "" = Digital printer (high street printer for eg. Minuteman Press)
1000 qty + litho printer (commercial printer with in house facilities)

Hope this helps.

Cheaper from commercial printing companies, they also print right to the edge. They usually only accept formats like adobe illustrator or very high resolution images. Some companies have templates you can fill in if you can't hire a designer or design one yourself.

I can tell when a leaflet has been printed from someone's desktop printer, does not look professional at all. You'll also be wasting a lot of ink, for example if your leaflet contains lots of blue then you're going to drain the blue ink from your cartridge so fast than the other colours will be wasted when you switch it out.

I agree with Phishfood.I think you'd better use online printing service for your flyers. They have professional equipments,so your flyers quality is 100% guaranteed. If your quantity of flyers is large, the price will much lower than you print by yourself. I feel Ecardtec.com is great for printing business cards, you can take a try.

It will be to consult a printing firm rather than of start printing on your own. Printing prices are not so much costly now-a-days . And if you don't have any experience or good knowledge in printing than it can be harmful for your business. I can just give you an advice to contact a printing firm ... Thanks..
