Printer Recommendations

Anyone got a recommendation for a new office printer?

Our HP business inkjet 1200 is about to give up the ghost.

We need:

- colour
- 2 paper trays
- to print approx 100 sheets per day
- can print various paper sizes up to A4

We would like:
- individual ink cartridges
- able to print duplex (the HP is supposed to do this but it doesn't work properly)

and finally, not TOO expensive - around the £300 mark would be nice (if probably unrealistic).

Thanks

Alison

What sort of quality ? If not photo quality, why not go for a colour laser. Samsung 510's can now be had for £150, they are colour, have a standard tray and a manual feed (holes either 50 or 100) and has a duplexer. I got one of these about a year ago and have since reccomended it to others, none of us has yet had problems, I was especially impressed with the supplied toner, I got about 4000 flyers which is unusual for any starter toner, usually last a week or so !
Print speed mono is decent, 20 odd ppm, slower of course if you duplex, colour isnt anything to write home about speed wise but isnt painfully slow. OF course if its photos you are after then a budjet colour laser of course wont cut it.

EDIT, I'll video it in action if you want to see the speed etc.

The OKI Laser range are excellent. They are reliable and the cartridges are not madly expensive (dear enough though).

We use an OKI C5300 & a new C3300N and both are excellent.
The 5000 range use a larger, more expensive cartridge.

We used these guys and their service is also excellent.

We purchased a Lexmark C522n colour laser some time ago when Lexmark had an offer of £150.00 cash back on it. This meant that the printer actually cost about £130.00 after cashback which arrived quite quickly. It has provided to be a excellent printer and we haven't had to buy any new toner yet despite using it almost daily for the last 4-5 months. Quality is pretty good as well!

The have since replaced this with a new model. This is the C532n. It costs about £280.00 but again they have an offer of £125.00 cashback. The spec is:

A4 colour laser
22ppm mono
21ppm colour
Resolution 1200dpi x 1200dpi
250 sheet tray
Optional Duplex unit

The duplex option costs about an extra £80.00 (this is the C532dn model).

Here is a link to have a look: http://www.printerbase.co.uk/acatalog/lexmark_c532.html.

Whatever you do, before rushing out and buying the one on the best offer this week, check the running costs, theres often more than just the price of a new toner to consider with a laser, such as inage drim, fuser etc. Tallys are an example, good printers but very expensive, they had (might still have) an offer, free black toner for a year, so of course people print out thousands upon thousands to take advantage of this offer, then find they are forking out hundreds for other consumables.

Thanks everyone for your help. After much surfing, comparing and calculating we have purchased an OKI 5600DN. Bit over budget but has all the features we need.

Wasn't looking too good last night when first plugged in, but once I'd talked to the nice guy on the help desk and he'd told me how to remove the packaging clips (oops) it started printing properly!

The fast colour duplex printing is going to save us so much time.

Might be a little expensive to run as far as Toner & Image Drums are concerned, but the quality is well worth it.
Our OKI's print a lot of paper and cause zero hassle.

If it proves anything other, please let us know before we go buying some more :)

They are good, cant deny that but as I and others have said, they arent the cheapest to run. It does depend of course on how much you print, if you did a thousand a month then it would indeed seem cheap to run (once you replaced the starter toners), on the other hand if you printed 25k a week you most certainly would not find it cheap to run! That said, I imagine you wouldnt be printing that many on that printer.

As I have said in another post, I spent weeks, comparing the most economical models and the HP 1010, 1012, 1015, 1018, 1020, 1022 are very cheap to run. The original HP toners are are about £50.00 and the compat versions about £25.00. The toners print 2500 pages which works out at 2p a page.
