Hi, I am looking forward to do a Prince2 Training. Can anyone suggest what value does this certification adds in terms of career and job opportunities. And I have also come across some training providers who offer online and classroom training. Which will be a best option to choose and also any suggestions as to which training provider in the market is good?

PRINCE2 and PMP are the most in-demand certs for PMs at the moment, specially in UK. How much experience do you have as a project manager? Having a cert without experience is pointless and so is vice versa.

I did a 3-day Foundation and Practitioner course with Firebrand. It was company funded, but it led to a promotion (the cert was a pre-req!)

Any questions, feel free to ask!

It's a pretty essential qualification for anyone who wants to be a professional project manager in the UK, though I would not recommend it as a foundation course in PM. Most training providers tend to teach existing PM's how to pass the exam. Maven do a very good job of this.

Hello Scott,

You mention trying to decide whether a classroom-based course or an online course would be the best option for you.

I am involved with providing classroom-based and online PRINCE2 training courses as part of my job at Knowledge Train. It seems to me that people are likely to choose a classroom-based course when they want to learn intensively and take the PRINCE2 exam(s) in a relatively short period of time. A typical classroom-based Foundation and Practitioner course lasts for 5 days. It's perfectly possible to do some pre-course study, then take the training and exams during the 5 days, and pass. Some people don't want to study as intensively or are unable to take time off work to do so, or perhaps just prefer the idea of studying on their own rather than in a class, in which case I'd say that an online course is more suitable for them, since home study enables them to learn at their own pace.

Taking this into account, if you'd like to get your course done in about a week, then a classroom-based course is probably the best option. On the other hand, if you would like to fit studying in around other commitments and study at your own pace, you might want to consider an online course instead.

My understanding is that PRINCE2 qualifications are well recognised. They can't guarantee that the person who has them will get a job in pm, but you may well find that they are referred to in a number of pm job vacancies.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Liz
