Hello Everyone,

Looking for some advice. I am planning on starting a business next year, however in order to do that I need to leave my current job as running the business on the side would be a huge conflict of interests.

I want to de-risk myself by having an income whilst I get myself going, looking at the local job market the best thing I think I can get into is a project manager job...I have lots of transferable skills for that. However, I'm having no luck in terms of even getting an interview despite having a fairly decent CV...i'm thinking of doing a Prince2 course just to get my foot in the door, the foundation course is only £220 (inc exam) - Any advice on whether the £220 investment is worth it and if Prince2 is worth it in terms of getting interviews?

Thanks All.

Are you applying for roles which specifically request PRINCE 2? If not, I can't see how having PRINCE 2 would help you get your foot in the door, as it is generally used by the public sector or companies who are bidding on public sector tenders.

How much project management experience do you have? Have you considered a short term PM contract which will give you an income while you start up your business, without tying you down with a permanent contract.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Some do list prince2 as an 'advantage' in the requirements section and some don't...I was wondering if anyone had any experience on how much a recruiter might value it.

I do a lot of project management in my job, but don't hold any formal PM qualifications and my job title isn't 'Project manager' ect so I feel that I am being overlooked. I would take on a contract job but again, I just cant seem to get my foot through the door at the moment!

Cheers
