For my web store I used perstashop, mainly as i have a good understanding of the layout, CSS, seo, and so on. For my next store I am thinking about using magento. I have looked at he files etc, and am confident I can work it, but not sure how the seo compares?
Dose anyone have any experience of going from one to the other, and how seo compares?

In terms of SEO, both are very good and we would recommend both of them. Personally, unless Magento has some glaringly beneficial features for your new shop, I would stick with the latest version of Prestashop, as its very fully featured and SEO is excellent. However, if you want the largest amount of add-ons, or a multi-store setup, Magento cant be beaten, but beware a lot of the add ons for Magento, a lot of them are overpriced and buggy.

PrestaShop has improved its search capabilities since its last release. But Magento offers even better SEO features than PrestaShop. It has inbuilt SEO functionality, tags and descriptions, advanced SEO options, which can improve your search engine ranking, and increase website traffic greatly.

I see the many votes of confidence for Magento here but as you explained you are an experienced Prestashop user. Prestashop versions 1.4 and now the new 1.5 are very SEO friendly. We have very happy customers who use Prestashop and their online shops rank pretty high in Google.
I would therefore recommend to weigh the hassle of learning to work with Magento vs improvement in SEO (if any).
