Hi

A few days ago I was asking what was the best ecommerce platform and most of the answers seemed to point to Prestashop and Opencart.

Can you mention the positives and negatives of each?

Thanks

Hi There,

Please have a look at this link where an independent ecommerce consultant compares the two carts.

I think, after reading this article, you would agree that Prestashop is a better solution than Opencart :)

Should you decide to go with Prestashop we would be happy to offer our services to you. PM me for more details if you like and access to Prestashop demo shops.

Best Regards,

Tim

Hhmm ... the consultants conclusion is
I'm pretty torn between the two at the moment!

So I don't agrre with @WolfStore's conclusion based on that article.

I'm not selling anything related to Prestashop and OpenCart, but have worked with both and they are pretty close. If anything I very marginally prefer OpenCart. But neither choice would be wrong.

    Hi There,

Not sure how much you would need to pay for an Opencart solution but with with the huge 50% discount we are currently offering for UKBF members, a Prestashop online shop (our annual Green Wolf package), would cost you only £44.50 including a domain name of your choice (provided that it is available) and hosting for one full year :)

    Best Regards,

Our eCommerce site is built using Prestashop and I like it.

I had used ZenCart before - Presta was a huge leap forward (nothing against Zen, just I think its time in the sun is over).

You ask how much it costs - insatlling it is a simple couple of clicks using softaculus, provided by most hosts, so you just pay for your annual hosting.

However, its theme-ing your store so that it looks like you want it to that takes the time/money.

I've used both, liked both, but Prestashop was quite buggy and I couldn't seem to get any support to the point where I gave up and tried Opencart. My new look stores will launch soon and the software is perfect for what I want, I haven't needed support yet but it seems a lot more readily available in the UK.

Both were good and seemed to offer the same sort of add ons etc. Play with both and see which you prefer?

If you need to know more about cons and pros of Presta and OpenCart, check this article. It's a very good comparison of these two carts and I think it can help you to choose the platform that suits your needs best.

So before I answer this I should declare I'm an OpenCart partner...

But I only became an OpenCart partner after reviewing both platforms and deciding OpenCart was the one to go for.

As other posters have said, they are both very good platforms and you probably wouldn't go wrong with either.

In terms of price it all depends on what you want to do, whether you need a custom design or not and what functionality you need to have. If for example a module exists that does exactly what you need for one of the platforms and not the other then that could sway it.
