Press releases - how often?

E

Your post makes perfect sense.

Just send one out every 3 months, as long as you have something very newsworthy to say. Its no good you sending out a press release about your new blog or that you changed your url - it must be a good story that might appeal to a newspaper's readership.

So things like:
New website launched aims to be etc etc etc

.....so your product/service saves time, improves lives, makes a difference, is better why?, solves a irritating problem etc etc.

or is just mind-blowingly unique in some way. This is not easy though, and will come a time when you will run oiut of ideas, and need to hire a PR agency, but they aren't cheap, so hire a copywriter to do a news release and send it to every newspaper you can find to begin with.

I think I understand your question.

Press release frequency is important because Google likes to see a steadily increasing volume of all things SEO. In other words, backlinks, forum posts, news stories. If it sees your name gradually becoming more "popular" across the web, month by month, it perceives this as a gradual increase in your web "importance" and it will gradually move you up the rankings.

Increasing ranking on Google is a slow process, so think long term how often your going to have something newsworthy or worth a press realse. Don't create press releases that aren't newsworthy, the web is full of them, and they're just a waste of space and time.

Only post news on websites with high domain ranks, make sure you use anchor text for your key search terms.

If you have stuff to say that's not newsworthy or press release worthy consider a blog.

No, No, No - Press releases are not for the SERPS - they are for sending out to the media and getting exposure.

But surely if they dont get high in the serps they dont get exposure?

I actually did a few to try and boost my site in the serps because of the links it provides, it did nothing, they are logged as backlinks but they provided no boost.

Hi

From an SEO point of view, maybe write something every few weeks if you have the time and try to use a variety of PR websites. However, dont spend to much time on it.

The nature of PR sites means that your article gets pushed deeper and deeper into the PR website's archives over time, so in one way, they actually decrease in value over time.

For 'online marketing', PR sites can be great for getting something seen quickly by lots of people - like a limited time special offer, but for SEO - if you write a good article that is relevant to your site, it may be better to put it on your own website.

I would allow the Journalists to come to you as much as you to them. In this instance I offer a tip... Join a network like Homes4media.com/beauty4media.com and so on where you receive journalist alerts as and when they need products for a feature.

Also. Why not try to source Journalists as friends through social media. An example of a good way to start at this is to search a directory of Tweeters... Twellow.com.

For more advice on altogether Social PR and SEO strategies visit my agency on socialprseo.com or search "social PR".
