Press release distribution

I would like to use an agency to distribute press releases, but many are very expensive for the reach they offer.

Are there any that anybody can recommend?

Ofcourse, at least £3000 (£1000 per month for the work).

but they do work! Most agencies will want £7k plus......

I suggest you ring up the newspapers yourself, send out your release, then follow up with a phone call a few days after.

If you get no interest, it might be time to fold your idea bcos if the press dont touch it, your idea is probably not newsworthy and without the media behind you, you are pretty much screwed exposure-wise.

I have too few posts to post a link but google emailwire. Our company uses them to submit press releases. Emailwire has the advantage that with every press relaese you submit this will also ranked in google news.

That way when you put in several links to your website you get a lot of traffic as the news are most often displayed on the first page of google for their keywords.

This is not for local newspapers but for online press releases though.

Maybe this is a stupid question of me to ask but have you not tried using the long list of free or very cheap PR sites online? We use a long list of free and low-priced providers when we do an online PR campaign every few months and we get some good results based on the pure volume of the PR sites used.

Where can I see a list of these sites/services?

You must contact the press directly and speak to the journalists. Also by speaking to them, you'll get an instant vibe whether you have a newsworthy story or not - mass posting to PR sites wont give you that.

There's only 2 PR sites that might work -

http://www.sourcewire.com/

http://www.responsesource.com/index_journalist.php

These ARE respected and credible resources, as PR agencies use them for clients press releases.

Dont expect traffic or SEO benefits - this isn't what their designed to do or used for.

It's not just the distribution (and we go our to over 100 online sites if the client wants a global reach).

It's what you distribute that counts if you want people/editors to pay attention to your release. The execution of the idea with spot-on writing and great distribution is just the delivery system. The initial idea comes first.

I'm not sure where the sums quoted earlier came from about PR agency costs. All I know is that we offer proven PR services which include ideas and execution on and offline for a fraction of these fees.

I find that most business business owners have too little time to focus on generating great newsy stories or strong visual ideas. We have that focus and often find news gold-dust underneath clients' own noses because they're too close to the business. I guess it helps that we have years of editing, broadcasting and journalism skills in addition to both online and off-line PR experience.

We also spend a small fortune subscribing to great media data providers - online and off, including freelancers and bloggers, so that clients' releases get the maximum exposure because you only get one shot with each release.

Plus our distribution service allows us to embed the pictures and videos that editors like to see to enliven their pages without clogging up their in-boxes.

We also:

  • Optimise the release to do you the most good online.
  • Then go online to find the results.
  • And encourage/help you cross post on social media.
  • And show you how to get more from free social media tools.
Or we can come in and teach you DIY PR skills (UK-wide).

Hope this isn't too much of a trumpet-blow but I do get cross when I hear about other people charging silly money for something that can be delivered quite cost-effectively.

Here is a list of free online PR sites - we use them for SEO/traffic building purposes. If you want genuine reach I'd be tempted by Penny's service if only I had any budget!

Yes, SCart. I believe SEO and media reach compliment each other - which is why we run the two together (why write one thing when you can create a whole wealth of online and off-line variants from just one idea?). To get both on and offline buzz going together is really powerful.
