PRess cuttings service

DOes anyone know roughly how much it costs for press cuttings service? I need coverage monitoring for local media in Lancashire but I'm out of the area so can't purchase the papers myself.

I'ma freelance PR consultant and need to do a quote for a client for Monday morning but all the cuttings agencies are closed for the weekend!

Can anyone advise on rough costs?

Thanks
Sally.

Ok, well sorry to have jumped on you like that.

A tip though... if there's something you don't know about your business, that you should know (or would be expected to know), ask certainly ...but just don't say what your business is. ie. in this case, a simple 'does anyone know how much press cuttings services are?'

I'm saying only as someone who was recently looking for a PR firm (found now), if I'd have seen you on here, saying something like that, save to say, I wouldn't have been looking you up.

Thanks Mike - much appreciated. Think I've learnt my lesson with this one! and now trying to remove my original post!

You can expect to pay around £150 a month for a limited self monitoring service.

    Not quite true.

Not only will the client have to pay for a cuttings service. (about £100 a month for a reading fee for one set of key words plus approx £1.50 per cutting), but they will also need to have a licence for the Newspaper Licensing Authority.

The cost for the licensing fee will depend on a number of factors including amount of coverage, how many people cutting is distributed to etc.

Give one of the major cuttings agencies a call on Monday and if you give them an idea of the sort of coverage you are looking for, they should be able to give you a quote.

Then speak to the Newspaper Licensing Authority a call for a quote.

    Hello Sallye

    No problem.

But just a little more advice. I can see where Mike comes from when he responded to your post...in your original post you did say that you were a freelance PR, not a marketing consultant. And it doesn't give you much credibility with people on here who might be looking for marketing or PR support, to be asking for advice on something as basic as a press cuttings service.

If you are going to want to offer your clients PR (or any other communications services) as well as marketing services, and it's not something you have professional experience of, then I would suggest a couple of options.

Gain PR experience by undertaking some work experience/working part time at a PR agency while you build up your business and/or study for a professional qualification in PR (www.cipr.co.uk).

Another option is to look at partnering with those who can help you offer your clients a more comprehensive communications service ie PR people, designers, SEO specialists etc.

Good luck with developing your business.

    Hi Helen

Thanks again, I am about to register with CIPR and am looking to obtain the professional qualification in PR.

As I expand I do plan to employ the services of a professional PR person.

Many thanks again for your advice.

    Sally.
