Hi, I work for a small company which will be winding up in the coming months. We have issued a statement on our website however we don’t have a strategy for how to best handle this on social media. Any tips or advice welcome as it’s not something I’ve had any experience in.

I would advise you to incorporate the elements I have listed beneath when making the announcement on your social media channels.

Be honest - a forthright but concise post is your best option. This will halt any potential rumors as to the reasons behind your sudden closure and importantly earn the respect of your audience, who will then be more inclined to support a liquidation sale which could bring in vital last minute revenue, should you choose to run one.

Show Appreciation - thanking your customers for their support and reflecting on the achievements of your business will put a positive spin on the announcement, which is important.

Active Channels - do not delete your social media channels, even after the shutdown is complete. Retaining your following will come in handy should you want to reopen the business or open up a brand new business.
