First you have to set up a site. Then you have to Put Pay Per Click Ads in your site. For this you can make accounts in different networks. Adsense is the trendiest among them. Since PPC is paid medium of website promotion and it needs a lot of expertise, I would not suggest you to give it a try yourself before having good awareness on the topic.

I think John means the advertising you see on the right hand side of a Google search?

If so, PPC is a system where you only get charged for people clicking on your ads. You can setup your ads to appear on search engine results. The key is to make sure your ads appear on searches that are VERY matched to what you can offer. The more specific the ad to the search query, the more return you'll get.

It's a massive learning curve and you can easily burn a lot of money with no return if not done correctly.

Recommend you have a specialist to get you started if you have the budget.

PPC is pay per click, which means you pay Google each time someone clicks on your ad and gets directed to your website. First you have to open a Google Adwords account. Then you create an ad relevant to the products or services you are selling on your website. If you are new to this then you need to take some time to read and fully understand about keywords and relevancy and quality score. PPC can be an effective way of getting visitors to your site but if you don't know what you're doing it cost you an arm and a leg and more. Google provides everything you need to know about it so I suggest you start with opening an Adwords account and the read all the information before attempting to use it.

As what many have already said, PPC means pay per click. It's where Google puts you at the top of a page result depending on your targeted keywords. It's like a boosted search engine rank as long as you have the money. Simply put, if you stop using PPC or can no longer pay for the services of Google to put you at the top results, then you won't be seen at said search results anymore.
