Potential troublemaker

I currently work with a guy who has a nasty habit of threatening to (and possibly has, not sure) "alert" the vat man of people who have dared to cross him or he doesn't get what he wants, in an attempt to f them off or cost them money and stress. He seems to be getting more and more bitter as the years roll by too!

I've recently set up a company, separate to him and am potentially not too far away from doing it full time. My concern is that although I've done nothing wrong and am always legal and above board, he will try to drop me in it just for the sake of it. Is there a way, if it does happen, of finding out if it was him?

In short, No. HM Revenue & Customs will never release details of any of their investigations including the name of the informer.

Just ignore him. He can complain about you all day long but so what, as long as you are in the clear with your tax affairs. But he sounds like he could be all talk.

What a bell end. How has this guy even lasted a year in business? The last time someone tried that with me I gave them the revenues number to call. Guy was speechless, I hate people like that. Pushing and shoving (inc verbally) won't get you anywhere in the long run.

He can't cope with other people doing well whilst he's getting shafted buy a director in a company he set up a while back. No idea if he's whiter than white and I certainly don't want to go into that now.

I'm not concerned by being inspected, I already was right at the very start due to reclaiming vat on an import. I was just curious more than anything.

It's not a very nice place to be though although as I'm self employed I can just up and leave.
