Post office refuses to accept OBA parcels

Hi, guys,

I am wondering if anyone has same experience, I am so upset today.

I started an OBA with Royal mail last week. I have been bringing my parcels down to a small post office nearby. Today the boss(she happened to be there for the first time since I started OBA) told me they don't accept OBA parcels and asked me not to go there any more. But if I need to bring my parcels to a main office, the cost and time will be a lot for me then.

Does anyone have same experience and how do you sort out this in the end?

Thank you

Hello Amethyst,

They MUST accept OBA parcels. Most tend not to like to do so because they don't make any money from it, but they have to accept them. Give the Business Helpline a call. May also be worth considering a collection if you are sending more than a few parcels.

Matthew

Hi, Mattew,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried to talk to Royal mail online, email, and calls, but no solution so far. I have parcels waiting to go today, it is quite depressing actually, especially I am a foreigner in this country, it takes so much time to get through the business calls but in the end I got no right one to talk to, frustrating.

Royal mail told me same that no one should refuse my parcels but the issue is Royal mail should tell the boss of the Post office so she won't refuse me, rather than telling me they have to, like kicking a ball....

I just try to start up myself so I started a small business. I will do parcels everyday, but right now, a collection service is just too much for me and their limit for free collection is actually long way to achieve.

I will still have to try. Thanks again for your precious comments and time.

I had the same problem, but I had a collection so the only few times I needed to drop them off at the PO, they refused and I had to travel to the big depot.
If you can, arrange for your mail to be collected. If you have an OBA account, you might get a collection for free, check with Royal Mail.

Thanks, Christiane.

As per Royal Mail, the free collection is under the condition that you can spend 15000pounds each year with them. This is not possible for me right now at the beginning. I may achieve this one day anyway, but not now.

I feel royal mail just help you set up an account, they are not so helpful when you have problems like this. I have been working on this 2days, many calls, many people to talk, but still find no right way to do.

I see! I have no problems at all with this. DX Secure come and collect our parcels very reliably each day for UK distribution. Overseas parcels still go Post Office though - but we pay at the counter.

Hi, Paul,

Glad to see you are doing all right. OBA account suppose to save you some pennies and time too comparing with the counter service. If you do parcels everyday, it can save much I think.

I don't pay any more but I chose to pay for the collection years ago, mind you, it wasn't £650 at the time, but around £450. If you're on OBA, then you are sending out a decent number of parcels.
If the PO won't take them and it would cost you to travel to the depot, then you might find the collection is the way forward, despite the cost. It will make your life a lot easier!.

Yes, you are right, it costs more to travel to main p/o if i can't do it nearby. Luckily, except that boss(a very old lady) said no, the staff are still accepting my parcels. Before OBA, I have been paying in their counter everyday in past 2 more months.

I would still go there before I can achieve a free collection. Hopefully, it won't be too long to go.

Thanks to share your experience, I feel much better after talking to guys here. Appreciate a lot!
