So I've just been attacked by 10,000 pronography links and if anything it has improved my rankings.

How long will this last?

Google tend to know when its an attack or someone is trying to damage your name.

You will probably find that google are aware of the pages that are linking to you and are aware that the links change from time to time. So they are fully aware that the links are being used for spam / link buying.

I personally wouldnt go near buying any links but I'm sure that will know these links are mostly worthless.

Explain what you mean by 'attacked by 10k links' are you saying that someone has pointed 10,000 links to your site? Or are you getting traffic to your site for prn? if the latter you have been hacked.

Spam links can help you rank brilliantly... right up till they cause a link warning and/or penalty.

Assuming the site is a real business and not a throwaway affiliate site, I would be looking to deal with the problem and get the links taken down. It might hurt your short term rankings but its better that than to end up penalised.

I agree with Suzuki, also...

You can use the Google disavow tool for a large number of links otherwise your fingers will fall off e-mailing a large number of webmasters.

There is a nuance here if you have GWT / Analytics installed you can work out if:

• You have been penalized
• Which links you need to remove (the ones causing issues)

Assuming no ranking drop... You could take the view that if things are great at present leave well enough alone and wait until you get penalized / suffer a drop.


Although that's obviously risky and up to you the disavow tool takes some time to work.
