Point of Sale - Dress Agency

Can anyone help me by recommending a relatively simple point of sale system for a dress agency? The prices I have seen range from £900-£3999 and this all baffles me!

I would like the right software for my type of business, something relatively easy to use so my Mum (who is going to help me out in the early days of start-up) can use it, and she's not all that techno-au fait!

I would like an integrated debit/credit card processor, but it's not essential.

Touch screen is a must and a bar code generator and scanner would be helpful for easy stock control.

Please end my sleepless nights so I can sort this out and move forward!

Many thanks

Oh shame if you had of been closer I would have popped in. Do you really need to have a hand held scanner for stock control on this, especially if you are trying to keep this simple for your mum.
Taking in. Have a register, and when the clothes come in, give each item the next number. Attached a tearoff price tag either pre numbered (use this number for the register) or buy a numerator and stamp both parts of the ticket. Date the price tag 17/09 put the name of the person on the back as additional security.
When the item sells, tear off the bottom half and put it in the till the top half stays with the purchaser. At the end of the day, write up the register to show the item has sold.
I didn't have a register, I had an A5 filing box with separate cards for each seller with there contact details and wrote on the card
Date, Item no and selling price (from memory) and updated each card at the end of the day from the ticket in the till. I actually didnt use a tear off ticket just a single price ticket.

The above is simple but sounds complicated due to trying to explain it!
If you would like a quote for a card machine I can point you in the right direction, as you are out of my area!:(
It just might be an idea to keep this manual for your mum and also keep your cost down;)

Patientlady - many thanks for that. I am sure the manual system would work, I probably need to just get my head round what you are saying and try it out. I have never seen tear off swing tickets in our local dress agencies but could see how this would work. Can you recommend anyone to supply these?

Also, yes I would still like to pursue the EPOS system if you can recommend anyone that covers Lancashire?

We can definitely help you with ePOS software, also integrated eCommerce software means you can sell online easily.

We also have local hardware partners all across UK, I'll take a look at see who we have near you that can help advise on the best type of terminal/printer/scanner to go for.

Take a look at www.airpointofsale.com and if you have any questions drop me a line

Hi, I'm part of a small software company called 4bizSoftware. We are currently writing a piece of software for a dress agency in Royston, Herts called Deja-vu.

It will be ready in about two weeks from now. We have worked very closely with the owner if Deja-vu and are confident that we have covered all aspects of her business.

The software has a bar-code generator and a scanner for easy stock control and a To Do list so you know which items are to be pulled.
The screens have been designed to be very straightforward so as to be used by people with limited computer skills yet is a powerful application.

Would love to be of help -please contact me if you wish to know more

Hi, I am very interested to hear of the software you have developed for deja-vu.
I am hoping to open my shop very soon.

I assume you have taken into account all the necessary requirements, but I'll list my wish-list here in the hope all of this has been covered:-

I need to create on it individual customer records so that each item a customer brings in for me to sell on their behalf can be given a unique barcode to attach to the item and that barcode linked to their record. Once an item sells, the barcode is scanned and marked as sold on the customer record, thus telling me I owe them money (it works on a 50:50 split so if an item sells for £10, the customer gets £5 and the shop retains £5). The customer is only paid their money 2 weeks after the item has been sold to allow for any returns. I don't want to pay a customer then the item is returned for whatever reason; I'd be out of pocket then as no way of claiming the money back! It's important the software copes with all this.

I'd also like an opening balance and closing balance feature that updates with retail sales and customer payouts so I can balance the till at the end of the day.

Items are only left with me for 8 weeks, with an option for me to reduce the price of them by 25%-50% after 4 weeks if unsold, so a price reduction option is important, along with the option to review on a daily basis which items are ready for reduction and which are ready to return to the customer as they have been in the shop 8 weeks.

I would therefore need hardware-wise:

touch screen display
cash drawer
barcode generator
barcode scanner
receipt/customer record printer

option of a built-in debit/credit card reader??

Am I making sense? Is this all possible?

Hello- thank you for your reply.
The application that we are about to release is PC based Stock Control and Management software aimed specifically at dress agencies. The application whilst simple to use is very sophisticated and so I cannot give you all the info here, but just a few points are...
It includes a customer/garment database managing the link between these entities and are bar coded. The software is designed for minimum input, so the period the garment is held, the percentage paid to the customer are pre-set, but can be altered for individual garments if required. A To Do list provides info on garments to be 'pulled' that day. This list also displays notes between you and staff along with customer appointments.
Initially, reports include daily, weekly and periodic sales etc. An add-on, available in a few weeks will include income and expenditure, cash flow etc.
The system is not however designed as POS so does not have touch screen, cash draw or card reader.

I hope this is of help.
Regards
Margaret

Hi Margaret

Do you have anything visual that you could share with me? Does this work on a PC only, or can it work on a Mac?

Touch screen, cash drawer and card reader are not that imperative if the system is user friendly. I can get a card reader from a payment merchant and can purchase a cash drawer independently.

I'll pm you my e-mail address in case you have some screen grabs you could send me? Or better still, do you have a demo site I can visit to have a look at how it works?

Time is of the essence for me now as I have just had my offer accepted on a shop lease so need to get moving quickly - I might even be in the shop mid october so this is urgent now.

Thanks

Hi, thanks for you reply.
You have caught us on the hop a little, as we weren't expecting to put the software on general release until mid-October.

I came across your post whilst looking to see if anyone else was doing anything similar.

Consequently we have no advertising blurb as yet. We are preparing a page for our website which will be posted as soon as possible.

User-acceptance testing has just started so we will have some sensible data on the screens rather than test data. I can take some screen shots of these later this week and send them to you if you wish.
As for time-scales, the first release will be available by mid-October with the more complex financial reporting ready by the end of October.

It is designed to run on a PC rather than a Mac.

Please by all means PM me.

Kind regards
