Plastic mould needed???

Hi everyone

I have recently had an idea for a new product but require a basic plastic mould to be made.

However the plastic manufacturers I have called are very expensive.
5k to design and make the mould!

The plastic tray I want to make has a very specific purpose but is still just a plastic tray and 5k seems to be expensive!

Does anyone know a company that would make a mould at a reasonable price or am i being unrealistic.

Got to love 3D printing... but this technology will see some businesses gone forever

What about vacuum forming, I think you can get away with cheaper moulds. I had some Digital Temperature gauges casings made with the above method, and they where no were near the cost of injection moulding.

Some interesting ideas, I didn't know 3d printing was possible yet.

Has anyone had anything made by this process, was it any good?
