I'm from Indonesia. I'm planning to buy 100% combed cotton plain t-shirts here in Indonesia and sell them to the UK. So I'm a middleman. I got two questions that I hope you guys can help me with :

1. How much is plain t-shirt in the UK? From what I've read so far, people can buy them at 2-3 pounds, but this information is from 2017, which may have changed now.

2. What is the best way to get customers in the UK? I don't have any contacts there.

This is still an initial information gathering. I don't know if it's feasible to do so.

For one t-shirt I may pay £2.50 or so - for bulk purchase I'd expect to be paying less than £2.

Best way to get customers? No clue - first decide who your customers are, then maybe can advise on best way to get in touch with them.

For selling stuff, there will be shipping costs, VAT, any import duty (which could change next year) - and its likely many of your customers will already be buying similar products from sellers they are happy with.

My target markets are the DTG companies.
Would you mind telling me how much the VAT and the import duty are? No need to be precise.
And yes, looks like I'll have to compete with the large scale sellers that are already in the business for years or even decades.

VAT is 20%. No idea of the duty, I usually use EU suppliers.

Pencarrie, Ralawise, Prestige among others supply t shirts to that market. Check their prices out on their websites.

I tried to search their websites, but found no price list, only detail specification mentioned. With Ralawise I have to register in order to see the price, so I signed up. Process is in progress.
Nice information though, thanks.

Fruit of the Loom Original T in white from £1.21, less if you buy in bulk.

Gildan Softstyle T - coloured - from £1.80...

Other less well known brands and you can pick up a decent quality T for less than a pound if you buy a few hundred at a time.

Ralawise have a stockholding in the region of 12 million pieces, a 1000 page catalogue, 135 brands and 4,700 styles.

Let's say you pay 2.50 pound for a shirt. Has this price included VAT and shipping cost?

Yes on the vat - it depends regarding the shipping cost.
Some suppliers do not charge shipping for the order if over a certain total price. But will charge shipping on the order if below that or if to a non main postcode.

And for that price I would expect order size to be minimal. With higher volumes there should be lower prices per unit.

So, with prices so cheap and good services, why do people still buy from overseas suppliers (China, India, Bangladesh)? Could it be the wholesalers who do that?

Yes possibly. Or those retailers with sufficient demand to make the order size worthwhile.
Same as ordering from those places for other stuff - bigger retailers and some wholesalers wanting the bulk and the price advantages.
