Piwik Visitor Stats -Alternative to Google?

K

I have replaced GA with Piwik completely for all my sites and I'm very happy with it.
The visitor log is quite expressive and you can even watch visitors in real time. The dashboard is fully configurable. But you'll find drawbacks mainly in the area of displaying geographical data where Analytics is clearly fancier. For me this part is not that important so I don't think about returning to Analytics, ever.

PLUS it is open source, which means you can actually develop it to suit.

which also means you have to trawl through foreign forums looking for help when it goes wrong like any other open source stuff?

i've spent three days trying to fix an error on prestashop and have resorted to learning French and Spanish as it appears there are very few plain english manuals or forums for anything that is open source.

Open source = foreign? :D

Of course, there's always the open source code you could take a look at! ;)

haha i know i'm talking total rubbish.

it's really easy open source, best thing in the world, that's why everyone uses Open Office...oh..wait no..because it's not compatible with things like Excel

just like PrestaShop. It seems really good doesn't it, oh its free, open source! the future. But when you want to actually make any changes 'WRONG VERSION' or 'INCORRECT FILE TYPE' ahhh so you take to the forums to solve your open source problem only to find things like this:

I have a similar sounding problem on product pages on makaza.ch. The \add to cart-animation works on homefeatured products and in categories, but does not work on product pages.I can't figure out if this is a problem with Prestashop 1.4.0.17 and its blockcart module or if it's a problem with the theme itself (Simply Clothes 2colours, purchased from Prestashop Addons). what's this? pages and pages of people who cannot find out why the hell they cannot get their theme to work!

People have to stop painting Open Source as the answer to everything. It's NOT! It's good for a freebie and it can do some basic tasks but when you try to develop it further you really do have to be a programmer to understand what the hell is going on with the damn thing.

9870 files to trawl through when you're looking for a coding error.

Technical error means many things.
If you encounter this problem, please try to reproduce it with the default theme, if the problem still occurs create a new report.

Aye, cheers. Great help.

I didn't paint it as the answer to everything, I simply said that as it is open source it can be customised to suit. :)

Yes you did. So NER!

I just have an issue with Open Source...as people can tell :)

It's nothing personal, it's just from my experience. I've tried several different open source platforms for myself from Open Office to Prestashop, OpenCart and the like but I've yet to come across something that does the work of a genuine, fully tested, fully upgradeable software package.

Anyway i've side tracked the whole topic with a rant. Many apologies..just had to stick my oar in.

And what do you do when proprietary stuff like Google Analytics goes wrong?
Call Google, and convince them they should listen to you? How? There is not even an email address for this purpose. They relay you to prefabricated "help" pages, and that's it.
