Personal WordPress Blog

Hi all

I'm not amazing with SEO, so go easy on me!

I have a personal blog set up on Word Press, and the domain is my full name. So eg fullname.co.uk - I'm using this blog to write posts about anything I want. Football, computers, websites, products, so many things!

Is it hard to rank these kind of websites up Google, when the posts aren't about the same subject?

Thanks

I've found found if you do about one post a week and have a decent structure your blog will earn a page rank of 1/10 within 3 months or so.

You'll need to work a bit harder to get good index for terms, in general you want every indexed page to be quality so don't bother with things like tags unless you use them very sparingly and on topic. Keep the tricks down to a minimum and the plugins too.

If your blog is about many different subjects, then your mainly going to be geared far more towards the long tail keyword traffic that brings in your visitors.

There is nothing wrong with this.

Just take advice from the post above about ensuring you constantly are updating your blog with new posts. whether its once a day or once a week. Try and get the posts structure in a regular time frame. This will also help to build your site as a trusted authority.

Google likes quality written content, so if you are writing according to your moods, just build up a few categories...i.e. a bunch of posts on football, a bunch of posts on tech, that sort of thing.

Write naturally, using long tail keywords that read well and engage and incentivise people to comment back and possibly link too, the more categories you build with quality posts and comments, the better your seo will be.

Aim for a post a week per category, then pimp yourself around the social networks, highlighting the fact you have a new post online. Use TW, FB, PI, LI, RSS etc.

If you write anything worth reading you'll slowly build an audience, just need to be prepared to write regularily.

Have you added google analytics so you know number of visitors, what are the top pages for content, what are the search terms being used?

If you get more than a 100 a day, you may want to look at the service offered by Hittail, very good for suggesting long tail key words.

Thank you everyone! Really appreciate it!!

One last SEO-related question. When I search my website name on google, for example, site is fullname.co.uk and I'm searching fullname - it comes up with my latest blog post in the information of the site, does anyone know if it's possible to edit this bit?

Like for example, UKBF's Google one when searching "ukbusinessforums" is "Business advice for UK startups, owner managers and entrepreneurs."

Thank you

What you are specifically mentioning there is the description. Another recommendation here for Yoast.

It's actually an eternal dilemma: to blog about everything under the sun or to focus on a specific topic. ;) I've always though this was similar to the roulette game, where you can either place smaller bets on several numbers or bet all you have on one number.
