PC or MAC???

I'm a mac man myself, and I swera by them. You'll find that by asking this question that all the mac owners will tell you to get a mac, and all the pc owners will tell you to get a pc.

There are benefits to each of them. The mac operating system runs a lot more smoothly than windows (particularly better than vista), mainly due to the fact that apple are making the hardware and the software, so they have have much more control about how to best utilise them both. Also, if you are a PC user now, there'll be some changing over time where you need to learn how to do all the things you did on pc on your mac.

Using a PC opens up more avenues for software possibilities, but not all of them are good. I'm a designer and have found that my process hungry design software runs better on the mac OS. If I was running a business like yours though I'd just look at getting a high end pc from a reputable brand. I'd be looking at spending £700-1000. Obviously, if you want a mac it's going to cost a bit more. I think the basic 24" imac is around £1200 now, MCC (apples high st reseller) have great offers on interest free finance though.

There are pros and cons for both, I think you just have to weigh up the options and make a personal choice.

Dear All,

I am looking to purchase some new equipment for the office. I am looking for some advice.

I am considering buying either MAC'S or PC'S and am unsure what would represent the greater long term value.

I run a mixture of online ecommerce website and an high street retailer outlet.

This may sound like a stupid question but I have heard good bad things about Mac's.

Anyone know any good deals at the moment

Thanks one and all:D

Gavin

From the point of view of a software manufacturer...

Fewer than 2% of the first time visitors to our website are running Macs.

This percentage has remained reasonably consistent during the last couple of years.

Therefore I take any claims that Mac's are sweeping PCs away in the general small business market as hype, promoted by Apple for their own valid commercial reasons.

I've become used to hearing that OSX, or Linux (which in fact is vanishingly tiny even compared with the Macs market share) is about to replace Windows for about the last 10 years. And in general the same tired canards about viruses are touted (Let's see, as a hacker who wants my virus to spread, am I going to target the opsys with 98% of the market, or the opsys with 2% of the market?)

From our point of view there is no reason to build a native-Apple version of our software. The potential market would be too small. Surveying our competitors it would appear that well-nigh universally they've come to the same conclusion.

Yes, Macs look very smart. Well, if you want to pay through le nez you can buy "designed" PCs and notebooks too.
