Would adding WorldPay increase my sales?

In your opinion would adding WorldPay increase my online sales?

I have been thinking about this for a long time, whether I should add WorldPay as an extra method of payment.

Currently I use PayPal and have had no problems with it so far. I was just wondering whether this option still seems amateurish.

I have been put off by the price of WorldPay and I seriously need help weighing up the pro's and con's.

Hi Jon

I'd like to add WorldPay too but the start up cost is just not on in my book. The annual costs, well, fair enough I suppose. The biggest thing by far that stops me doing it though is the four to six week wait for your money!

Until they bin that hair-brained idea then no way! :D

Both, I'd say. We have a high number of people preferring to pay by paypal.

WorldPay- get started and then renegotiate rates and settlement periods. You'll find they are happy to be more competitive once they are satisfied your business works.

i can understand why you are worried of people being put off by paypal as opposed to worldpay but in all honesty if people can see the credibility of a secure line it doesnt make a difference.

i think your only gain by having worldpay is the prestige element. you really need to weigh up if you can justify the cost just to have the name!!

tough choice - personally, stick with worldpay.

It does look more professional to offer something like Worldpay. Depending on what I'm buying, if the company only offers Paypal then 9 times out of 10 then I won't buy from them. I offer Worldpay, Paypal and Nochex on site as payment methods and find 80% pay by Worldpay, 15% by Paypal and 5% by Nochex.

I don't think there's a simple right or wrong choice for this. If I were a customer of yours and you said I could either pay by cheque by post or go online and pay by Paypal, I would be quite happy using Paypal because I have just dealt with you on a personal level because you've done some work for me. That's quite different to selling products which someone buys from your site having found you on a search engine.

I think you should make it quite clear on your Order page that payments are processed by Paypal - use their logo for example. That will mean it's not so much of a shock when they click on the order button and are taken to Paypal.

I would also make your alternative payment options clearer. Perhaps have a bold heading saying: "Please choose a payment method", and then under that "1) Cheque" followed by the cheque info, and "2) Paypal" followed by the Paypal info. Using bold headings breaks up the text and allows clients to see everything more clearly.

HTH!

I personally feel Worldpay does add credability to a primarily UK market, and PayPal does seem amateurish to me, but I agree offer it as an option.
I'm about to launch a new online shop and on that I offer Cheque, Worldpay and PayPal. The customer can choose what method they want to use.

Worldpay opt for the 6 weeks broker service because they take on responsability of risk by offering credit card services to businesses where banks would decline merchant facilities. You have to remember that card holders can claw back charges up to 6 months after the transaction date - by which time 15% of new businesses are no longer in business! So Worldpay have to take the hit and pay the card holder back knowing they will not get the money back from the business.

Their signup fee is high agreed, but you get what you pay for as they say :)

The advantage of using WorldPay is that many online merchants use it and it has this very nice feature where the buyer does not need to fill in his details has he used it before.

All that is needed is to enter his username and password and caboom! No need to enter his credit card or personnal details.

Having myself used WorldPay for several years, I think it is not the best option because of the many chargebacks that occured due to fraudulent transactions. My operating costs have significantly increased because spammers were fraudulently paying for products/services. When the bank in question requested a chargeback there was little to do to avoid it.

Haven't used paypal at all to collect money from my customers. I just recently shut my WorldPay merchant account and am using 2CO who has proved to provide greater security mechanisms to detect possible fraud.

Now back to the PayPal vs WorldPay debate, I think using WorldPay actually provides a boost to your company's profile and I have also read that many people (shoppers) tend not to trust PayPal with their credit card.

Offer both Worldpay and Paypal if you can.

It quite funny but if you use http://www.web-merchant.co.uk as your Merchant Bureau they offer Worldpay payment gateway cheaper than Worldpay do themselves and the terms are slightly better.

Don't over estimate your likely turnover via Credit Card as this makes you a more risky proposition, its very different than your Business Plan estimates, if you find you are doing more business, your limits can be raised as and when by contacting the merchant bureau.

Our relationship with our biggest supplier when first starting up was nearly jeopordised as the bank transfer took over two weeks to go through. We now pay that supplier via Paypal and it works out pretty well, as they can see they have been credited with the moneys almost immediately.

As I've said before elsewhere, the online trading world will just have to accept that, given time, PayPal will win out...

I'd tend to disagree that Paypal will win out! Be more acceptable, most definitely, take over from the big credit card processors, not on your nelly.

Risky businesses and new start-ups will always be given less favourable terms than big business when getting a merchant account, but after a while of acceptable trading behaviour the 4 week hold on your money can and does start to reduce if you ask. With a trading history you can also get more acceptable terms and reduced % of the item price.

If nothing else the arrogance of Paypal freezing accounts without warning and their adverse terms and conditions in comparison with a merchant account will play against them taking over larger businesses card processing accounts.

Don't believe me? Read any of these sites:

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=paypal+stole+my+money&hl=en&lr=&start=10&sa=N
    http://www.etn.nl/paypal/
    http://www.paypalsucks.com/

    No smoke without fire.

Don't get me wrong we will continue to use paypal for customer convenience, but I'm not silly enough to entrust them with £1000's which may be confiscated never to be seen again or for 180 days - could put you out of business entirely.

I wrestled with this one a few months ago. I launched with Paypal but sales were low. I ended up deciding to go for WorldPay after finding out from some potential customers that Paypal was putting them off (the thought of registering I think). I offered Nochex as well but seemed even less popular. So now I offer all three & my stats are the same as Toon's above - i.e.80% pay by Worldpay, 15% by Paypal and 5% by Nochex. Personally I am glad I opted for WorldPay.

We spent quite some time in 'decision-mode' between WorldPay and Paypal.

PayPal appeared to, and still does get a lot of negative comments. We would have gone for WorldPay, but it was just too expensive!

In the end we chose to use RomanCart in conjunction with Protx, and a merchant account with our Bank. A combination that suits us perfectly.

I seriously can`t think of one redeeming feature for PayPal. Yes it gives off a slightly more professional aura but PayPal are closing that gap every day. eBay and PayPal will be the next Microsoft I`m sure of it, they clearly have more money and resources to make it the perfect checkout experience.

PayPal still has its drawbacks, no quantity acceptance, spending limits etc. but it will improve on these as time goes by. Worldpay insisting on 4-6 week turanrounds for paying into your account is highly reserved for them if they wish to stay in front of PayPal.

I know 5 people that decided to use Worldpay in addition to Paypal and ALL of their sales increased.

We also use Worldpay and their customer service is great, the setup is a little strained sometimes and their departments don't really seem to communicate that much but once things are set up I have found it a far more comprehensive and flexible system than Paypal.

I think offering Worldpay fills UK customers with confidence in putting in their credit card details :)

1)Victim was receiving an email on 22th Jan 2010 about disputed of transaction RM990 which had been ordered on 14th Jan 2010 and when i called to worldpay, worldpay staff asked him to contact the card holder to discuss about the disputed reason. Then victim was calling him and he told victim that his wallet was stolen and he promised to contact the bank. Here, victim would like to know why worldpay staff didn't tell us the actual direction and misleading us at that moment?
    2) Victim thought rbs worldpay is the online payment gateway which do basic verification such as compare the card holder name to the card number ID, etc. But when there is issue happen, then worldpay just tell him that it is "only a payment service provider to capture shopper data and refer it on in a secure environment electronically in order to facilitate a transaction on your behalf." It sounds very forgiving but actually they had screwed up their system. They didn't verify well and send merchant the false green light to ship out the goods and now worldpay are trying to avoid the responsibility. Is this worldpay strategy as a payment service provider?
    3) Worldpay had made your name and reputation no longer trusted . The reason is because everyone in the world know that Worldpay can do online payment . But now, everyone will be afraid because we do not know when the payment will be going to chargeback after worldpay send us the RBS WorldPay CARD transaction confirmation. Now we all know that what is written in this RBS worldpay CARD transaction confirmation email is not correct and this confirmation email does not really confirmed. So what is their function of the "confirmation" email ? Worldpay are basically misleading their merchant and put their merchant to the risky situation.
    4) Victim was calling worldpay on 28th Jan about the confusing of the 2 disputed transaction and their staff then told him that RBS worldpay cannot read the card holder information. So now everyone understand what is the reason Worldpay can't verify and can't detect those issue.
    5) After talking to Worldpay staff on 3rd Feb 2010, their staff proposed victim to ship goods two days after receive order and "RBS WorldPay CARD transaction confirmation". By looking at the record, Wordpay sent victim the disputed message on 22th Jan for the order on 14th Jan, and sent confirmed fraud transaction report on 29th Jan when after victim kept calling tend to find out the confusing transaction on 28th Jan. Do you think RBS Worldpay is effective and efficient ?
6)RBS Worldpay claimed that they are actually not going to authorize transaction and avoid all the responsibility. Well, If RBS worldpay does not authorise transactions, then please put this at the main page of Worldpay . It will let our merchant to decide whether we need to use a merely service provider but not protecting merchant online payment gateway.
    7) Some transactions have been settled but Worldpay wanted to freeze all victim’s transfer. Can Worldpay let everybody know whether is it their right to change the commitment to merchant by transferring the rest transaction after 23 days? Worldpay didn’t mention clearly when they will finish the investigation and when the victim can get their payment?
8)We as merchant do our own job to make sure we deliver to the recipient with according to the delivery details. We do not have the visibility to detect which card is true and which is fraud. We just ship when receive Worldpay Card transaction confirmation. All these are depending Worldpay - a World Online Payment Service Provider , and worldpay must do their own job instead of relying a non technical customer to handle this.
9)Victim was calling Worldway customer service on 28th Jan and after victim’s further questioning then Worldpay staff just found out there were transaction which has same credit card number but different name and address has made order from victim’s website. Everyone need to understand how reliable is RBS worldpay payment security wall and how sensitive they can detect? We definitely cannot see the credit card number in case we every time call to worldpay and spend at least 10 mins on the verification and sync up. If in this case, will Worldpay send us customer Credit card number everytime if they need merchant to verify further?
    10) Worldpay mentioned they have caution and warning message to advice customer to take verification which is right thing to do. However, based on victim’s past two years finding, most the warning and caution have been gone through successfully. If you give merchant the warning and caution message, does Worldpay provide any methods/guideline for merchant to further checking and the guideline can protect merchant eventually from being chargeback.? We have discuss with Worldpay Staff, they actually do not have any effective guide for our merchant.

Good luck to those who are using Worldpay and tend to use Worldpay.
