We currently use PayPal Website Payments Standard in our Magento store, which generally works fine. I have just had PayPal on the phone talking about switching to PayPal Express Checkout instead, which seems to make sense as it costs the same, but is more secure and also mobile optimised as well. So we started setting it up, but then realised that it changes the way checkout in Magento works.
Currently we have the standard 6 step checkout in Magento: 1. Checkout Method (guest or account); 2. Shipping Information; 3. Billing Information; 4. Shipping Method; 5. Payment Method; 6 Order Review. People go through these steps and then in 6. they have to tick on a box confirming they agree to our T&C's and then click "Place Order" and at that point they are taken off to PayPal or SagePay to make their payment, before being redirected to the order confirmation page which gives them their order number.
However with PayPal Express it actually takes them away to pay immediately at step 5 and then brings them back to step 6 where they then still need to tick the T&C's and click on Place Order. To me this would be really confusing for them, as they think they have paid already but still have to click on Place Order. I think it may lead to more dropouts as people may think they are ordering again or something.
The guy at PayPal said this is quite normal now on websites using PayPal Express Checkout, but I can't remember ever doing it this way, and I use PayPal personally for pretty much everything. To me the payment step should always the final one, not pay and then still have to click on Place Order.
Has anyone else activated PayPal Express and noticed this? Is it confusing to customers, or is it just me?
