Anyone use something other then paypal ?

I have a site where I really don't want people to use paypal so I'm looking at Payza (used to be call payalarm).

I don't think it'll be worth doing it for general sites but I think I can get most of my members to switch as they sell to each other.

moneybooker is expensive when it comes to processing refunds, Nochex is another version of paypal, i had terible experience with them. I find Google checkout very good and best security, few time people tried fraudulent card processing but google stopped them instantly. If you are looking for gateway merchant i would recommend cardsave.

I know all about the regular ones, what I'm after is one that is very cheap and easy to use for small payments that my group of 350 (now but might grow a lot) can use to do transactions between each other as I want to drop paypal from the system.

The site is an auction, using ebay a £5 buy now sale realises £3.70 for the seller after ebay+paypal. I can remove the ebay costs for my members but currently not the paypal costs. As the transactions are between a group it should be easier to get that group to use another system and save £1.30 on the above transaction.

My other option is to create a points system but that would be expensive to setup.

I notice dwolla.com do free transaction under $10 which would be ideal but they only operate in the USA.

On our web site I use several forms of payment among which are Bank Transfer, Cash, Cheque, Nochex and Paypal. I have to say the majority pay with Paypal followed by Nochex and followed by Bank transfer. The cash option is for thos visiting in person really. I have found though people that haven't heard of Nochex abandon payment and when I've asked them if there was a problem with payment, they just say they've not heard of Nochex so didn't follow it through. So there is that aspect to think about. It may not be want you want, but what your customers are happy and feel safe using.

Hi Websitehandyman.

I work for Nochex. Your discussion has thrown up some interesting issues. It sounds as if you represent a kind of closed user group of buyers and sellers. We have found through listening to people like yourself that the smaller payment service providers can be more flexible and make systems work that meet your particular requirements and they can operate profitably because of a much lower cost base.

If the payment option is managed by the user group owner then trust will go with whichever system the owner chooses. For example, very few people realise they are paying via Nochex simply because we encourage our merchants to brand their payment system as their own, so you don't typically see Nochex' name appearing during the payment process, only after a transaction is complete.

This is bad for Nochex' brand awareness, but fits our company ethic to be an invisible partner. We believe that the focus should be on the merchant, not the payment system!

Would be interested to hear from anyone who would like to progress the closed user group concept.

Best wishes,
- Peter

Moneybooker is really very expensive .I think you should try flagship merchant services. Processing of credit, debit card is really secure and reliable with flagship merchant services. Even processing charges are very low. Definitely flagship is the best alternative of PayPal.

there are many alternatives but the big issue is the people know and trust paypal above all others and it has most 'members' they are not the best but they are easily the most trusted

Yes, I remember four or five years ago when people were reluctant to use any non integrated payment system and PayPal was view with suspicion by many customers and clients.

Their acquisition by eBay and the effort the have put into making a very easy to use system has really benefited them.

I do wish there were more established and well known options and that the existing ones were both easier to use for the customer and the developer. I'm sure in the future we will see more options diversification but for now its very difficult to convince customers and clients of any viable alternatives.

Hi,

I suggest getting yourself a bog-standard merchant account with an acquiring bank into which your card payments are accepted. They'll provide you with a payment gateway which can be integrated into your website.

Rates are low and you can even have 30 day rolling contracts.

Regards,

Brian
