Hi guys,

We currently use sage pay as sour payment provider at £24 a month plus their % of each sale.

this then gets passed to our bank/merchant account (streamline) £24 min charge includes their % of each sale.

we also accept PayPal (no monthly fee just a % of each transaction.

Then natwest business account charge us 40p per transaction.

Do I need all these services?

Could I be getting a cheaper deal?

Could I just use PayPal as payment provider? If so could people still pay if they don't have a Paypal account?

Any tips/recommendations great fully received.

Thanks in advance

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

With PayPal your customers can still pay by credit/debit card (they don't need to have a PayPal account), but some people can be suspicious of PayPal and might view your site as less professional / trustworthy.

Alternatively, as Siobhan suggests, you could look at switching to a different payment provider. I run a site which helps compare their fees and gives some other background information: http://paymentbrain.co.uk/

If you really wanted to, you might be able to save money by switching to a different bank that wouldn't charge your current 40p transaction fee. I believe HSBC's Business Direct account offers this for free: http://www.business.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/...nts/business-direct-account/rates-and-charges

Hope this helps,

Matt

I've used Adyen, but they have a 100EUR monthly fee (but you will prob sell that much). They accept payments from literally everywhere ukash payments, cash in Brazil, cash in India and various Asian debit cards, plus Paypal. There's thousands of different payment gateways out there all with various fees or just use Paypal they can also take cards buyer doesn't need a Paypal account.

Hi Ryan,
I know PaymentSense offer a solution which is only £10 -£15 a month and they have pretty competitive rates. Would probably be cheaper to switch to something like this and stop using PayPal depending on how many transactions you do a month. Hope that helps!

Hi Ryan.

Firstly this is a volume question. Subject to what you are turning over you could be paying less (you need to tell us your t/o).

Secondly, how much of your t/o goes to PP? If it is a significant percentage then you would wise to continue accepting payments in this way.

Thirdly, if my business had any kind of significant turnover I would not want PP as my only payment service.

On the other hand unless a lot of payments were coming from PP accounts (rather than cards) I would not want PP - it is too unreliable as a general rule.

So a little more information would help us to help you!
