Payment Gateways

We currently use a payment gateway but need to change as too many payments do not go through. Opened business account with HSBC - then spoke to their payment gateway company Global Iris. We have been refused for them to even put through the forms stating we will need £250k in security, despite the fact we are tracking at £160k for this year's take, having launched in Oct 2010.

We're a subscription based website and have had huge media attention with all national newspapers writing about our business and about to appear on the BBC, so feel we have the longevity and can see the business share only growing as more people become aware around the world of our services.

We have scaleable and low overheads.

Can anyone recommend an excellent global payment gateway to approach - must work on a global level?

Worldpay, SagePay, PayPoint.
These are the big players.
I see no reason why they would refuse you and it will be easier to integrate into a website.

Hi, You have options other than using the banks. There are a few MSPs on this forum who will give you better rates.

As a subscription based service have you looked at GoCardless. They allow you to generate Direct Debits and charge just 1% fee.

I use Worldpay on my website and it was a real pain to set up but I have no problems with it now it is up and working.

I'd avoid the banks own brand payment services if I was you. They are hard to integrate and probably more expensive. Worldpay works for us well and has done for over 10 years.

I use paypal on my website. I think it very good. why not?

For subscription-based payments, PayPal is an obvious one. However if you can, offer your customers a choice of payment gateways - people do like a choice when it comes to paying for something (especially if they've had a bad experience with one gateway).
