PAYE coding notice and tax reference number

Hi

Just looking through my most recent HMRC PAYE coding notice. My tax code is correct but there is also a tax reference number IE 845/B5. What does this mean, and how do I check if this is correct ?

It is usually the tax reference that identifies your employer, though the letters and numbers quoted sound slightly wrong for that.

is there anyway to look this to make sure its correct other than calling HMRC tomorrow ?

Is there a reason why you care if the tax reference is correct? Most people wouldn't be bothered. It doesn't affect the tax you pay.

I've been sent an updated coding notice and this as changed. I haven't changed employers and the update was a slight lift in my code. I take it its a 2 hours call to HMRC tomorrow then ?

You may get through to your employers payroll office quicker to ask the same question?
