Patents

I have an idea for a product, and through a google search cannot find anything available. Is there a way of accessing the patent database myself, and doing a search before I pay any money.

Obviously, I can't say too much, but it is an item concerned with beekeeping. The terms beekeeping and a couple of other terms would restrict the database down quite substantially, and some time spent online would make it quite straightforward to see whether there is anything similar out there.

Have you tried to contact anyone to be hired & do the research for you? You need check local & international as well as Trademarks too.

Simply just Patent access won't be enough to get a full overview of availablility & legals. Theres alot of resources & people you can use for a low-budget. I'll find the Companies you need if you want for a small fee, but just do you research & you'll get in-touch with the proper person. Theres not really a public-database that will give you everything one needs to know about Copyright, Patents, Trademarks ect.

Before you spend too much time looking at patents, think through how you will defend any infringement. It can only be done through civil action and that is very expensive and can also cripple you. It might just be better to commercially exploit your idea and get ahead of the pack. First to market often wins.
