Hi all,

I have come up with a product idea for excavators. So far I haven`t been able to find anybody using/manufacturing such a product, so I would like to patent it. Never done it before. As far as I understand patents are registered by specialist lawyears? My question is - are they all same or there are better/bad ones? Can I get into situation where my patent is so weak, it can easily be challenged/avoided because I picked wrong lawyears? Who is responsible for patent being water tight/precise/strong - lawyear?

Thank you all.

Anybody can register a patent. The patent has to be 100% unique and 100% novel. That means nobody has done anything like this before and it is totally new and has never existed anywhere ever.

As there are about one thousand types of attachments that can be bolted into excavators and about as many variations for types of excavators, you are going to have to do a shed-load of research into what is available worldwide. I would start with the US market, as they have the most diverse building and digging machines and their patent library is available online.

I would also research the German market as they have very high levels of automation in the building trades as a result of high labour costs.
