Help. My business email address uses my domain name ([email protected].) I am about to put Windows 11 on my desktop as it has been very poorly behaved since 15 October. I know I will need to install my work email address on outlook and for that I need my email password. I currently use my email password daily as both my phone and my desktop have that email account on Outlook, but I have no idea what the password is. None of the places I use it show the password, just ***********. Any suggestions about how I can recover it?

I assume you use Microsoft 365 for your Outlook email address? If so go to https://www.office.com and login. When it asks for your email and password click "Forgotten Password" (or similar) and follow the steps to change the password to one that you'll remember. You'll probably need to login again on your other devices but you only need to do that once. Just make sure you save the password (I highly recommend a password manager like Bitwarden which only costs £10 a year).

Well that failed at the first hurdle. When I try to go into office.com it trie4s to sell me M365, which I have been paying for since 2023. But I got it through the stupid work/school account which creates issues.

However, the password I need to put into outlook is, surely, the password recognised by my email account through my domain name, so, presumably, something in C-panel?

Oh, is this self hosted email? You mention cPanel so it might be. Try changing the password in the admin panel there although I'm slightly confused as you said you already pay for M365 so do you have two email providers or just M365 Office apps and not email?

I have Office apps. My email is through my domain. When I go into CPanel I use a password, but I don't think that s the same password as my email accounts

I see. If you login to your cPanel there should be a section for changing the email password.

Just a side note M365 supports custom domains for email with no problems as do many other services such as Google Workspace.

There is a section for changing the password, but it needs the current password first.

Will be interesting to see how you get on almost had a similar issue with my wife's email account, she had changed it, thought she had made a note of it but couldn't remember, and as you found out obviously for security reasons, yes you can change your pass word but you need your old one to verify.

Hope you manage to get it sorted, fortunately for my wife's account I knew it would probably be one of several she may use and we got there in the end. I now make sure I have her passwords on my spread sheet 😁

    Best of luck
