i believe you are right but the site i bought them from did not say they were uggs just good quality sheepskin boots, it wasn't until the letter arrived that Ugg was mentioned, i should have asked more questions but i just wanted the best quality i could afford and that seemed to be this site.
ill be more vigilant if i shop abroad again!!!!

Buy from British companies in the future. It may cost more but hey..you won't have problems with customs and they won't be fake (9 times out of 10)

You may have lost your money though as foreign companies don't seem to give much of a hoot about refunds on individual items I'm afraid.

Hi Lisad! The same thing happened to me but with 4 sheepskin boots- I called up customs as on the tracking page it say "held at customs" and they said a letter would be sent out. Do you know what this letter says? I'm getting pretty scared.

Come on - when you bought them, you looked at the picture and either thought they were Ugg, or you thought they looked like Ugg - but were much cheaper. Either way paypal or the credit card won't help as you lose your protection if the goods were illegal. If you unwittingly buy stolen goods with a card in the UK, and the Police remove them, the credit card company duck out - sorry! You took a gamble and lost.

That part is not true. You are still protected if they are completely different from what you ordered - and its hard to argue a counterfeit product isn't completely different (unless of course they were advertised as fake in the first place...)

No, what you'll find is they're not "clamping down on goods". They're actually clamping down on illegal goods that cost legitimate businesses money - big difference. I'm not sure if you expect sympathy on this point from a bunch of business owners, all who've been the victims of some flavour of scam in the past...

If you buy goods from china to use, rather than re-sell - then it's the same gamble many of us take when buying their output. I've had pretty good success with it until recently, when I lost £500 on a fake company over there. The credit card companies can almost protect themselves by chargebacks on businesses that are trading, but when sales stop, theycan't deduct payment from no-payment, if you see what I mean, so they won't feel obliged to compensate you. Remember, if you buy something in the UK in good faith, on credit - and it turns out to be stolen, then you get the item seized and have no redress at all. If customs seize your paid for good, then you paid, they sent. It's not much different from the goods getting lost in the post - Visa won't refund on that, either, if there is proof it was sent. The trader did everything you asked. Not their fault really, is it?

Really? Perhaps the bit in the Paypal terms and conditions about money laundering, stolen and counterfeit goods and criminal activity don't mean much then?

"Excuse me, Mr Paypal, but I ordered 2 kilos of heroin from abroad, and paid by paypal - but customs seized it. Could I have a refund please?"

Stupid simile, I know - but it really is exactly the same thing. Goods that are prohibited from entry to the United Kingdom. You cannot expect Paypal (much as we hate them) to stand the loss on dodgy imports.

The onus of proof would seem to be with the purchaser to prove. I suspect strongly that if the price was similar to 'real' ones, then the obvious question would be why did they buy from a foreign website? They thought at the very basic level that they were getting a bargain, and took a risk. It went wrong. Live with it. When you source products from countries with very different views on ethics, you really can't expect them to say FAKE products for sale. They frequently put the makers name on things, and customs grab them. Some get through, some don't. If they are still trading with the Paypal account, and there is plenty running through it, then paypal might do something if you can prove you thought you were ordering genuine products. From experience of buying AKG equipment I know that this is not the case. AKG do not sell direct from China. I got ripped off - $800 in my case. I was greedy. Price in the UK, £1600, from China £500ish. I took the gamble and lost. The credit card company and my bank could not help. Transaction complete. Write it off. It was a gamble, and I lost. My fault. QED

Hi, Lisad and other guys,

I am sorry for your experience with shopping from China. It is ok to shop from Chinese vendors, but please remember

DO NOT shop branded products from internet vendors. Most branded companies are producing in China but they always have their authorized partners to sell their products. If no authorization, all can cause same probelms whenever the product itself is real or not.

In another side, though China is producing for most branded companies, but China is always more expensive to buy their products. I cant understand why but rubbish brands outside even mark themelf as big brands in China and sell very expensively. So, DO NOT buy any branded products from China unless it is Chinese brands.

I am not a brand fans so I have no idea on UGG. But if it is the vendor who cause the problem, you should be able to ask for refund from paypal. Better to talk with the vendor to sort out this first.

Good luck

Hello

If you was to pay for something in general from china or not and there was a problem with the transaction which you have paid with your credit card. Is there any way of getting the money back from your credit card company as suggested earlier on/.

i have paid by paypal so hopefully i will be refunded, just sent all documentation to them...fingers crossed

I'd like to know who's responsibility in this case?
your fault because of you don't ask for more information or the seller's fault because of he didn't tell you that?

it seems caused by UK custom, but finally all the cost will be at seller's account, right? shipping cost, time...etc.

I,m now understanding why the chinese people really don't like using paypal for dealing.

in some city, chinese just boycott paypal for business deal. they mostly will choose west union.

I don't know who's problem on the phenomenon of paypal boycott in china.
