I'm looking to get an order of 200 items of clothing couriered to UK from a manufacturer in China. Order is EXW so will be door to door.

What paperwork do I need to have prepared to ensure I get the goods through customs etc?

Do I need an EORI number?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

If you are using an international courier (DHL, UPS etc) all you need is a Commercial Invoice from your supplier to yourself including address, contact name and contact number, detailing the product description, material, quantity, unit cost, total cost, currency and ideally the correct HS Code (which identifies the product to customs) to add the correct Import Duty when clearing UK Customs.

Although an EORI number is easy to obtain, if you are using DHL, UPS etc, they will pay the Duties (VAT & Import Duty) to HMRC and request payment from you before the goods are delivered. Generally, it will be delivered without the need for an EORI number.

If you are looking to import goods into the UK on a regular basis, then it's better to get an EORI number.
