Pallets of "returned" electrical items

I am considering starting up a discount eletricals business. There is a demand for this in my area with no-one else doing it.
I have been on a few wholesale sites that offer "returned" items from chain stores and catalogues.
The low prices are extremely tempting but I would like to know if anyone else here has had experience of these companies.
I do expect that some items may not work but is it a small enough percentage to still make a decent profit?
Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Might be worth checking if they are returned electrical items whether they have to be all checked for electrical safety...just a point to consider

To follow up on what the post above. I'd be very careful when purchasing these items as they'll all need to be tested before being resold.

Be prepared to be checking each item and if you're not electrically minded it's best to avoid.

In the past I've heard people buy these returned pallets. Source an original from the store and then take the faulty one back for a refund.
(i'm not condoning that obviously)

You asked for help & advice. He's helping you by pointing you in the direction of a wholesale electrical supplier!

Well thankyou, but I was really after general advice. Pointing me in the direction of your own company is more helpful to you than me:)
Most of your stuff seems to be job lots of the same item. I am really needing mixed lots.
But thanks anyway for your help.

I looked into this a number of years back. And was put off by the local (within100 miles) returns wholesaler also had a shop so looked like they where cherry picking all the good stuff.

It was however before Ebay took off. So there may be another avenue to pursue.

There used to be a magazine called the trader that listed ex catalogue resellers

I used to do this when i left school. The is someone in my local area who gets all returns and damaged goods etc from comet. I used to buy a 'Leads Pallet' from him each week and sell on the local markets. There were roughly 1,000 items on there and i used to buy for about £800. In that pallet there were universal remote controls, aerials, scart leads, batteries, home phones etc. About 25% was useless and did not work but i kept them to one side, the other 70% i sold at a profit of about £800 so doubled my money in a week, with 25% of the useless stock left, the next week i did the same, but then with the useless stock i would look at stock i had left from the week before and try and use parts from one phone to make another phone work and mix and match things to sell to avoid as much wastage as i could.

I still think there is money to be made but it is very labour intensive, he seems to be doing very well that bought the stock directly from comet and sold on to resellers like myself. He had to buy alot each week for that contract though so had to always make sure there were buyers in place. I once told me he worked 70 hours a week.
