Pallet from USA to UK - Is this a good price?

Hi all,

I need to ship a pallet from the USA to UK, I have received the following quote but a few people have said that it seems eith erexpensive, or seems to take a long time for the delivery.

1 pallet plastic reptile housings (must be suitably packed for sea transport) 47" x 38" x 79" / 660 lbs

Ex Canoga Park CA 91303, USA to Canvey Island, UK

- GBP 525

The above price includes -

Pick up ex Canoga Park, USA
US handling & docs
Current freight and surcharges
UK handling
UK import customs clearance & documentation
Delivery to Canvey lsland (you would need to have labour availabe to unload from our delivery vehicle)

The above price excludes -

Marine insurance - we can arrange at competitive rates if required

UK import duty & VAT - payable at cost. The duty rate would depend on the applicable Customs tariff number (HS Code) for the goods. Your supplier in the USA should be able to give you the relevant tariff numbers.

Admin fee - GBP 30

Any applicable HM Customs examination fees, storage charges etc - payable at cost

ALL BUSINESS IS TRANSACTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH LATEST BRITISH INTERNATIONAL FREIGHT ASSOCIATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Departures are weekly with a transit time of about 26 days.

Does this sound fair to you? I have no idea what to expect as I have never had anything imported. The items being imported are for personal use, not business.

does sound a bit expensive. Power Forwarding has an excellent calculator that you can use to get a quote from:-

(I have no connections with them)

Remember you will need to pay VAT and duty before you will clear customs in UK.

VAT is easy. Its 20%.

Duty depends on the product, which has to be classified first. Look at:-

It's quite possible that duty is zero.

And remember that as its for personal use, you will need to pay VAT when you pay your freight forwarder on top of the prices you are quoted by them
