Hi does having a higher pagerank mean higher rankings in google?

Ive had the site for around 6 months but still on page rank 0.

How can i improve this? Do i just need to wait as i do link build and do add new content as much as i can.

Thanks

Ok thanks and the other query i had was about links. How do you find higher page ranked sites that i can try and get an inbound link from? Is there a software that shows you this?

I have been getting back links but not sure what page rank they are. I read that the higher page ranked site that links to me is better for my rankings

hmmmmm You have the same attitude as a lot of people.

Relevance is more important in my opinion.

If you have a site about bags or similar that links to your bag site its more valuable than an off topic high pr site link.

You will really struggle to get links off sites that are higher than a PR4 anyway. But like i said earlier pagerank is only a very small part.

A link is a link at the end of the day, if its relevant its good thats all you need to tell yourself.

  • PageRank Technology: PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.
PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value. We have always taken a pragmatic approach to help improve search quality and create useful products, and our technology uses the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page's importance.

PigeonRank:
When a search query is submitted to Google, it is routed to a data coop where monitors flash result pages at blazing speeds. When a relevant result is observed by one of the pigeons in the cluster, it strikes a rubber-coated steel bar with its beak, which assigns the page a PigeonRank value of one. For each peck, the PigeonRank increases. Those pages receiving the most pecks, are returned at the top of the user's results page with the other results displayed in pecking order.

The easiest way to do that is get something like market samuria or even at a basic level use yahoo explorer and look at your competitors and other relevant industry websites back links. You can then check which ones have good PR and are follow (as opposed to nofollow) and try to build some links. You will need a keyword strategy first to maximise your anchor text.

So to sum it all up pay 0% of your time trying to achieve a higher pr.
If you ask most SEO's if they would prefer an inbound link from a PR 7 website or a PR0 what do you think they would say?

IMO PR is still important. If it is not then Google are deliberately misleading everyone in the business. It is true that is may not be as important as is once was but that does not mean that it should be ignored.

well lets say she finds a site about bags that sits number 1 for loads of terms and precious bags gets a link from that site but its a page rank zero is that a bad link? its not is it. and that scenario gets put against trawling the net for high pr sites that will probably be off topic blog comments. and how many sites that are pr 5 or above hand over links willy nilly they dont. for her it will be better to just look for relevance with the link is a link mentality.

I agree with everything you are saying../but for the bit about google misleading businesses if page rank didnt matter.
PR has nothing to do with the end user (imo) if it was the case that Google wished people to know PR was important then why not list the page rank on the index (next to cache and similar)
PR is not there for consumer but for google.

I think it's more of an historical thing. It has always been part of the google toolbar and has just carried on from that?

Not a very technical answer but I'll give the benefit of my experience regarding getting links.
The toolbar pr can be useful for indicating a site's general authority and trust, not just on the homepage but, more importantly, how that visible page rank distributes through the site.

It also indicates the site has been around a while and is more trustable than a site with no pr at all. I'll tell you now that if you get 100 links from zero pr sites within 12 months most of those links will have been removed or nofollowed.

A more established and trustworthy site (one with some visible page rank) is less likely to resort to these kind of playground tricks. So these are the links you want to be working for because,if nothing else, they are likely to stick.

I disagree. I've been working with some companies who have had websites since god was a boy but with no links their PageRank is 0 or 1. Time alone won't give you a good PageRank.

On the flip side I've built sites that have become PageRank 5 within 2 months of registering the domain simply because of the quality of their links.
