I’m starting a new online business and struggling to find packaging companies that offer low MOQ at a low price for printed retail packaging. The product I’m selling is a luxury home fragrance product and I feel that the packaging must also reflect this, rather than simply sticking my logo onto the box.

I would like some advice if possible, am I better to take the plunge and order 500 boxes with printed logo, or start the business with a label sticker on box and order 150-200 which would be approx 40p cheaper per box with a much lower overall cost for the smaller quantity and seeing how the product sells. I know ultimately it will come down to my own personal preference and what I’m willing to pay upfront, but would appreciate advice from anyone who’s had similar experience.

Thank you

You may find some doing a little less than 500 boxes with printing on, haven't looked for less though I know a couple of companies had a MOQ of 1000. Realistically its better to test things with a sticker.
Then you could have 'new improved packaging' as some of the brands later claim. :)

Thank you I appreciate your comment. I do feel torn as I have to be realistic and if things don’t take off I could be left with hundreds of boxes, but at the same time I want to offer customers that level of luxury when they receive my product, as they can’t smell online so packaging is a cruitial factor. Agree with your idea about new and improved packaging, definitely something to consider to keep initial costs down.

Thank you

Oh yes packaging can make a difference.
Take a call it £5 wholesale candle. Add a pretty box costing £1. Charge £35 rather than £18 retail.
Only difference is the box. :)

But will they see the box before purchase? If not it won't influence their buying decision.

My view would be that initially you want to get a feeling for the level of demand before investing too heavily.

Have you thought about buying a screen print, and doing it yourself? That's what we did - screen printing is actually a fun skill to learn!

We picked one up with 30 screens, 10L of ink for around £100. I have printed over 2500 boxes, and I am still rubbish at it!

Is it the sort of rubbish as the cracked vase with the big daisies by Van Gogh? :)
Which hung in a café in a TV show... hiding the fallen Madonna...

Hi - for the past 15 years we've used oval label stickers on black boxes with ribbon - looks awesome, clients utterly love it

Our smallest box, is A5 with a clear lid. Thereafter we go right up to wedding dress boxes, all with the same Lux label. It's easy and means you can change your box sizes at any point if you wish
