Overseas Printers

Does anybody here have any experience with using an overseas printer?

We may be looking at using a Latvian printer but I wanted to know if anybody had any horror stories before we placed the order!

I'm a printer, but I believe in global market forces. If your job is north of £20k and tou can risk a longer lead time/ risk of late delivery then go for it.

For smaller or time critical jobs - forget it!

We have a client that outsources £40-£60k of print per annum to EC countries.

The price per unit achieved is tiny compared with UK printers but the turn-round time can be very frustrating - not just because of the additional shipping time but also because the print job itself never hits time targets.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Doesn't follow.

5000 leaflets, yes I would agree with you, but there significant differences on jobs that are under £300, and if you use airfreight for small qtys, lead time isn't a problem at all.

Hi

Yes it is a cost thing. I use some excellent printers over here that this particular overseas printer only just competes with on cost. With this one job though there is quite a significant price difference (nearly double the cost)

The print spec is below, If anybody wishes to quote on it then please feel free to do so.

Qty: 100,000. Size: 85 x 55mm. Printed full colour both sides on 300gsm Matt Art. Artwork supplied via emailed PDF. Delivery to one address Devon.

I'm looking at gettinmg some printing done and would prefer to use a local company (to Swindon), but price and quantity is an issue.

I used one of the web free (well £15 for P&P) business cards to get some business cards, good quality and 2 weeks turn around. I'm pretty certain that the printing is done off-shore. Their quotes for flyers are less than local printers, £55 for 250 A5 single-sided colour flyers. Can anybody beat that?

Check out our website at www.PrintEmpire.co.uk - with regards to UK printing, we're extremely competitive. I can't really judge overseas companies, but all I have to say is a few of our clients have printed overseas and have been very unhappy, and turned to us after.

I guess if you're going for big orders continuously (i.e. Argos), then maybe worth a go - otherwise, as already mentioned, delivery times can take a ridiculous amount of time; and on smaller orders you don't save any money as by the time you include shipping costs it's virtually the same as printing in the UK.
